Following their conversation, Zhang Fan noticed a significant change in Jill. The Jill he once knew had returned. However, for some reason, he felt their relationship was getting uncomfortably close, which Zhang Fan found hard to adapt to. Thankfully, his side mission was deemed complete.
He was surprised at how easily the mission was accomplished. He hadn't intentionally befriended Rebecca and Jill, but it seemed their relationship with him went beyond mere friendship.
"Damn, he's so lucky. I don't know how he manages to attract girls so effortlessly," grumbled Caicai, the fox spirit from an unknown system plane. This mission had a hidden attribute; it wouldn't have been completed if Jill and Rebecca didn't have a significant liking for Zhang Fan. She hadn't expected him to complete it with such ease. Was it really just luck?
In the following days, Zhang Fan swiftly integrated himself into the S.T.A.R.S. team, forming close bonds with everyone, especially Jill, Rebecca, and Tomoyo. Their proximity to him made Foster envious and resentful. The three most beautiful women of the Raccoon City Police Department constantly revolving around Zhang Fan and ignoring him, a handsome guy, was simply incomprehensible.
Sadly, Zhang Fan and Tomoyo's training time was cut short. The number of missing tourists in the Arklay Mountains area was increasing alarmingly. Despite the police issuing a curfew, curious tourists kept flocking to the area, leading to even more disappearances, shocking the entire Raccoon City.
Consequently, the police had no choice but to deploy the S.T.A.R.S. team for investigations. However, despite several outings, they found no trace of the zombies or monsters, which seemed to have vanished into thin air.
"I've been feeling something's not right these days, especially with the captain and the chief. They seem to be hiding something," Jill shared her observations with Zhang Fan, Rebecca, and Tomoyo during dinner one evening.
Zhang Fan pondered over her words. Indeed, Wesker had been acting mysteriously lately. Could this be the prelude to the biohazard outbreak?
Tomoyo and Rebecca, being new to the team, didn't have much to say, as they weren't familiar with Wesker and Chief Irons. However, they both instinctively felt that Chief Irons was not a good man, his lecherous gaze alone enough to send chills down their spines.
"Maybe we should investigate this secretly. I have a feeling they're both deeply involved with the incidents in the Arklay Mountains," Jill suggested. While her intuition was sharp, investigating Irons would be relatively easy, but Wesker was a formidable and cunning opponent.
Before Zhang Fan could respond, Charlie suddenly rushed in, looking panicked. Considering it was already past nine in the evening, something urgent must have happened.
"Quick! All members of the B team assemble! We have an emergency mission!" As expected, a mission had arisen. Zhang Fan exchanged a glance with Rebecca, then swiftly left the room with Jill and Tomoyo, sensing the urgency of the situation.
"All members, arm yourselves. We're boarding the helicopter immediately. I'll brief you on the situation during the flight," ordered Team Leader Enrico as the team assembled. He explained the mission details once they were airborne.
The mission's location was again in the Arklay Mountains, but this time, it wasn't about missing people. A train had been attacked there and had lost contact, so the B team's task was to find the train and rescue the passengers.
"This doesn't seem simple," Zhang Fan remarked, suggesting the possibility of another monster encounter. Enrico, having experienced a biohazard attack before, understood his implications.
"What should we do, Captain? Should we turn back?" The team looked to Enrico, as he had the final say in the mission.
"No, we can't. Chief Irons doesn't acknowledge our previous experience. Retreating now could make things worse. Let's continue with the mission, but be very cautious. Remember, your safety is the top priority," Enrico decided after some thought.
"Understood!" The team members agreed, quickly checking and organizing their weapons and gear. They were prepared for a potential battle.
Suddenly, the helicopter's rotor made a loud noise, and the aircraft began to shake violently. Before anyone could react, the helicopter crashed into a tree and came to a stop on the ground, luckily without any injuries.
"Check your positions and stay close! Be vigilant!" Enrico issued orders, aware of the dangers lurking in the night. It was past ten, and the dim moonlight barely illuminated the ground. If zombies or monsters appeared, they would be in grave danger.
