Chapter 2 - Chapter 2

Amelia sipped her coffee, her gaze fixed on Kai across the small table  and the hum of the coffee shop provided the perfect backdrop to their conversation. She couldn't help but marvel at how different he seemed today, almost as if a hidden side of him had emerged.

Kai, whom she had always considered introverted and reserved, now animatedly recounted tales of his adventures. He spoke with an enthusiasm she hadn't seen before, his eyes lighting up as he described the smallest details of his experiences. It was as though he had discovered a newfound joy in sharing his world with her.

Soon they left the coffee shop, the crisp autumn air greeted them, and they strolled towards the nearby park, which Amelia insisted they go to after some persuasion. Amelia couldn't contain her surprise when Kai suggested they play on the merry-go-round. She had never seen him so carefree, and she relished in the simple pleasure of laughter as they spun around together.

When the merry-go-round finally came to a halt, Kai stepped off, a sheepish grin playing on his lips as he failed to walk in a straight line, letting Amelia laugh but eventually help him once he found his bearing. It was a moment of vulnerability that Amelia had never witnessed in him before. She realized there was more to Kai than met the eye—a depth he had kept hidden during their friendship.

Their laughter echoed through the park as they wandered aimlessly, savoring the joyous occasion. Kai's eyes sparkled, and he confessed, "I haven't felt this much joy in a while." He looked at her, simply analysing and appreciating the moments he has shared with her. " Thanks, Amelia." He smiled lightheartedly as Amelia felt a bit flustered but she tried her best to reciprocate.

Just as the warmth of their connection enveloped them, Kai's phone rang, breaking the magic of the moment. His expression shifted, and he sighed. "I'm sorry, Amelia. I have to go," he said, attempting to maintain a light-hearted tone.

Amelia, though saddened by the sudden change, understood. Life had a way of interrupting the most beautiful moments. Kai walked her home in silence, the air heavy with unspoken emotions. When they reached her doorstep, he turned to her with a hint of regret in his eyes.

"I wish I could stay longer," Kai admitted, his voice tinged with apology.

Amelia, despite the disappointment, smiled and hugged him suddenly. The embrace lingered for a moment, a silent exchange of understanding and connection. In that hug, Amelia felt the depth of their friendship and the complexity of Kai's emotions.

As they pulled away, Kai stood there, momentarily stunned. The vulnerability he had shown earlier paled in comparison to this unexpected display of affection. He hesitated before returning the hug, and for a moment, the world seemed to stand still.

"Take care, Kai," Amelia whispered, a mix of sadness and fondness in her voice, something telling her that whatever it may be it didn't look good.

He nodded, a grateful smile on his lips, and then turned to leave. Amelia watched him go, the weight of the phone call lingering in the air. The door closed behind him, and she was left standing there, holding onto the bittersweet memory of an evening that had danced between joy and the sudden reality of life's demands.

Her heart heavy with the fleeting beauty of their time together, however she won't do this to herself. Not again
