Been about four weeks since I last saw Walter and the office has been quite busy, my personal life was also starting to pick up. In fact, despite being in the city for one month, I have already made friends and already had a potential boyfriend. Making friends was not difficult for me, I had an easygoing, inviting personality... it is safe to say I was never lonely.
"Ms. Lohan..", I lift my head in response to my manager calling me,
"I love the review you did on that manuscript by Jess, we decided to publish it and Walter suggested it be turned into a movie. This means both our divisions will be working closely with each other on this, since you did the review, I suggested you handle it on my behalf, especially with me being out of the country for a month. Are you up for the challenge?"
I knew that was a great opportunity, despite having applied for the secretary position, I always dreamt of being an editor, and this was it! My chance to market myself! "Yesss ma'am! I will gladly!" the excitement was evident.
"Please Ms Lohan, I told you to call me Jennifer" she insisted, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. She is one of the top businesswomen in the industry, I wonder how she is able to handle her President responsibilities and still have time to edit and review manuscripts. Although she says editing is like a hobby, thus it never felt like a job, I still admired her. A wife, mother, and President of a big company and excelling in all departments, she was a superwoman to me and it was a privilege to work under her. I felt like I hadn't earned the right to call her Jennifer yet...but this opportunity she gave me was a step in the right direction.
The upcoming week was intense, there was a huge difference between the agency and the publishing divisions. The office setup was different, it felt like a completely different building, you can clearly see some of Walter's personality in the decorations. The publishing division had a cozy feel and there were paintings in the hallways and book quotes on the walls in public areas like the kitchen and bathrooms. The recruiting agency on the other hand had a more vibrant and playful decoration with pictures of celebrities hanging on the walls, and it was a bit more chaotic perhaps it was because of the scandal involving one of the key talents of the agency. There was also a TV in the waiting area which only played the showbiz channel. It made sense as to why I hardly saw Walter during our meetings but his team was more than capable of handling business without him, it made me want to work even more diligently for my manager to trust me even more with big projects.
The discussion concluded very well, and it was another successful wrap, Walter's team managed to secure sponsorship for the movie and of course, I managed to also put in my 2 cents regarding the manuscript with Jess's consent, next, it was time to hunt filming locations and find our stars. I was now part of the writer's team and one of my responsibilities was to make sure that Jess's needs were met and she was happy. We wrapped up today's meeting particularly very late, it was already very dark outside and unfortunately, a car was still a distant dream at this point in time, so I relied heavily on public transport.
"Ms. Thandie Lohan, it's been a long time hey"
There can only be one person who calls me like that, when I turned I was met with his sparkly brown eyes and a smile again, that smile ...
