Becca hears her voice and stops typing on her phone.
'It's been a while. Thank you for coming to celebrate my success with me...
Becca looks up at her and cut in '....Don't thank me. I was forced to come'.
Helen pauses, unsure how to respond. 'But still I should thank you'. She finally say something to her but Becca do not say anything. She carry her bag up and leave. Helen watches her then see Niyi approaches her on the way.
'You are leaving?'. He asks.
Becca glare at him. Then Gbolahan stands up and steps into the middle. The music fades and attention shifts to him.
'Good evening everyone'. He says. Becca and Niyi turns to him. 'I'm happy, happy this is happening and am proud of her'. Small applause fills the room. Becca rolls her eyes away angrily. Niyi turns to Helen and the two smiles at each other.
'It's a great success and that's why am presenting a brand new car for her as a gift'. Gbolahan announces as he raises the car key up. Everyone cheers and claps for Helen. Helen covers her mouth in shock. Becca do not clap, rather she scoffs angrily.
Gbolahan steps closer to Helen to give the key to her. 'Congratulations'. He gives the key to her and hugs her. Everyone cheers louder for her. Becca looks furious and walks away. Niyi turns and watches her leave.
The party ends, and most guests have left. Helen sees the remaining few out, saying goodbye and waving. Busayo and Niyi stand on one side, deep in discussion.
'You need to find a time and talk to your sister'. She says to him.
Niyi nods 'I know, I have been too busy'.
'She is not happy'. Busayo make her aware and Niyi stares.
Helen and Niyi sees Gbolahan and Busayo to their car. They share hugs and smiles. Gbolahan and Busayo get into their car and drives away. Helen and Niyi walks back inside, holding each other hands.
Helen and Niyi enters into their bedroom and Helen hugs her immediately, smiling. She says 'Thank you'.
'Thank you too. You made us proud'. He says to her. The two looks at each other, smiling.
Shortly, small sadness spread on Helen's face. 'It's been seven years, when will she likes me?'.
'Becca? You don't have to be bothered. When the times comes, she will like you. I should see her but am so busy. Mum told me she is not happy. I should send some cash to her'. He says
'Can you send the cash to me to give her? Have been looking for a chance to see her'.
'Okay then'.
The two stares at each other and slowly they begin to kiss. Shortly, Niyi stops, pants small.
'Niyi'. Becca calls and continue to kiss him, shortly, they begins kissing passionately and move to the bed and fall on it. They stops kissing and Helen quickly takes off her clothes and his shirt and pants then they lie properly and they kiss and caress each other bodies. Niyi climbs on her and they starts to have sex. Helen close her eyes and moans small, she is not feeling it harder. Shortly, Niyi ejaculates and he stops. Helen opens her eyes and stares at him. Niyi gets down and stares up. Helen looks at him.
Helen pauses 'We are done for tonight'. She do not ask a question because she knows they don't last longer in bed. She hates having sex with him because she never feels satisfied. Niyi turns and face the other side and close his eyes. Helen looks sad and gets down from the bed, puts on her night dress and leaves the room. Niyi opens his eyes.
Helen enters her study room, her room resembles a cozy library The room is well-lit, creating a warm ambiance. One side of the room features a comfortable bed, neatly made and a drawer beside it while on the other side, a desk and chair create a makeshift office. On the desk, there is laptop and scattered books on the desk. Helen is angry small and she walks to the drawer beside the bed and brings out the sex toys.
She lies on the bed and takes off her night dress. She insert one of the toys inside her vagina and she moans quietly. She enjoys it.
Becca paces the sitting room, clearly upset. Her friend who she stays with, Tina sits on a couch, absorbs in her phone and smokes.
'I'm angry. My dad doesn't care if am fine out there or not, just because of what I did in school. He replaced me with her. He saw me at the party and didn't even say hi or how I've been'.
She looks at Tina and walks closer, she takes a cigar and lighter from the table. Tina watches her lights the cigar and start to smoke. Tina laughs.
'Thought you quit'.
Becca takes away the cigar from her lips 'Trying to be a good girl but they don't see it'.
Tina laughs. Becca sits on another couch.
'I hate everything. My dad gifted her a car because she won an award for her book. When my mum was telling me about it, she was proud of her. They are all proud of her'. She says sadly.
Tina stands up and leaves. Becca continue smoking, angry. Just then, Tina returns with a whiskey bottle and two cups. She sit beside her and pours a drink for each of them.
'Take a drink and forget for a moment'. She gives her the drink. Becca looks at her and smile. She collects the drink. They both drink and a silence lingers after they stop.
'We both lived a crazy lives in school, did tattoos, we shared one'. She says and Tina looks at her hand, there is a tattoo of Becca name and tattoo of Tina name on her Becca hand too.
Becca continues 'and despite your parents knowing, they still support you. You have your own apartment and car. You are living well'.
Tina chuckles 'Maybe because am the only child. They have to be careful'.
Becca pauses 'My parents have niyi and her. They don't need me'. She says and her phone chimes on the table. She takes the phone and looks at it, scoffing a little after reading the text. Tina looks at her.
'What's that?'.
'Helen want to see me'. She says and put her phone down. Tina stares at her. 'She had nothing when she was brought home. She was just a full housewife but everyone likes her. Then my dad would compare me to her because he thinks she is living a good life and we are the same age. Who knows how she lived in university'. She hiss. 'I just hate her'. She adds.
'It's okay, but go and see her, hear out what she has to say'.
Becca stares then continue smoking. Tina joins her.
