Swords clash, sparks flashing, blood spurting, and then silence. "Huh?" a tired voice says, "was... that... a dream?" the voice wonders until his thoughts are interrupted, "Rex! Sir!" a voice yells out. "Kismel?!" Rex asks, sounding surprised, "are you okay, sir? You don't seem well." Kismel asks, concerned. "Yea, I'm alright, just reality waking me... Kismel, do you not question this war?" Rex asks Kismel, wondering about his subordinate's opinion on the subject, "Question? Sir, we are soldiers and our duty is to follow orders, the battlefield is no place for idle thinking. Such thoughts will be your downfall in battle." Kismel answered, Rex wasn't surprised with Kismel's response but still he just had to ask. "Of course, you're right my friend, I guess I haven't been getting much sleep." Rex would say as an excuse, "Yes, well war tends to do that sir, anyways, the men are awaiting your orders for the attack on the Frontier." Kismel says, shrugging off his suspicions on Rex, "Ah yes, tell them to get ready, we'll march at sunrise." Rex responds, "Yes sir." Kismel says, saluting Rex and walking off to inform the Battalion. Rex's mind soon wanders back into his dream, a battle between him and a mysterious dark knight.
"The soldiers are in good morale, Lady Vira." a voice says, interrupting the thoughts of a female werewolf, Vira. "Hm? That's good Bernard, but how many times have I told you not to enter my tent unless it's important" Vira says, sounding irritated, "m'lady, you know full well that I wouldn't unless it was important, orders from the general has come through, they are having us deal with the Elassian forces on the way to Wion Mount." Bernard informs Vira. "As per usual." She would say, letting out a sigh, "Prepare the regiment, we shall leave at sunrise" ordering Bernard. He'd bow and leave to prepare the soldiers for the mission. As soon as Bernard left, Vira would stare out into the sky drifting into thoughts, "How long must this war keep going?"
It was past sunrise, twas dusk and both army regiments would enter a skirmish against each other, and it would be the day that the lives of Rex and Vira would change, forever.
Swords were clashing, fire was raging and the screams of dying soldiers were echoing the battlefield. Whilst this was happening, there would be another battle within Wion Mount's Forest. A battle soon that will set the Fate of Rex and Vira in stone.
"Stop!" Rex yells, running towards a group of his soldiers who were about to attack a child. "What do you think you're doing?!" Rex immediately questions, standing in front of the little girl, with one of the soldiers answering his question, "our job sir, it's our duty as soldiers to follow the king's orders." Rex couldn't believe it, orders from the king himself, to eliminate the inhabitants in Wion Mount? "No, the King would never order something like this" Rex would angrily say, "but it's true sir" another soldier responds, Rex knows his soldiers would never lie to him but he just could not believe it, "Please… P-please Help me..." the little girl managed to say, causing Rex to turn around and respond in a calming tone "Don't worry, I won't let them hurt you" and with that, he turns around to face his soldiers, pulling his sword from his sheathe and stands ready, "If that is the will of the King, then I, Rex Alaric denounce myself from the Elassian Kingdom!" he would yell, shocking the soldiers that were now his enemies.
Vira's ears twitched, hearing the sound of combat somewhere in the northwest within the forest, "This way!" she yells, leading a small force towards the direction of the fight. When they arrived, Vira and her strike team were shocked to see an enemy general fighting his own soldiers. They watched Rex cutting down his own soldiers, with ease as well as the soldiers, although well trained, they were no match for their old commander. Vira and her men dismounted their horses to get closer, they were curious as to why an enemy general was cutting down his own men, but they also couldn't pass up the opportunity to ambush what appears to be a high ranking general. Just as Rex killed the last of his former comrades, Vira notices a little girl that was behind Rex but just as Vira was to give the order to cancel the ambush, her second-in-command gave the order to charge the exhausted general. Rex, tired from a skirmish earlier and further exhausted from his fight with his former comrades, turns to the direction of charging soldiers, soldiers from the Brutia Kingdom.
"Damn it" Rex thought to himself, the Brutian soldiers thought this would be an easy victory against an Elassian General but they were mistaken. Just as the first Brutian was about to swing his sword down on Rex, Rex quickly side-stepped to the poor soldiers left at an alarming speed and lopped off his arms and before the soldier could scream out in pain, his head rolled, this caused the other Brutian soldiers to take a step back. Why wouldn't they? They thought the man they're about to attack was tired enough to be an easy fight, they were half-right as Rex was showing signs of fatigue. Just as they were about to charge Rex again, Vira stepped in between her soldiers and Rex yelling "Everyone! Stand down!" this caused both sides to stop, Bernard, Vira's second-in-command, immediately questioned her "What are you doing Lady Vira, he's an Elassian general, our enemy." Rex upon hearing the name Vira, readied his sword in cautious manner, Vira took noticed and gave a sigh " Bernard, if he is our enemy then why would he kill his own men? If not to protect that child then what else?" she says and points to a little elven girl that is hiding behind Rex. This caused the Brutian soldiers to lower their weapons, the soldiers were speechless, Elassian soldiers were willing to kill the Frontier Natives? A child at that! Bernard was still unconvinced but his trust with Vira was enough to make him lower his sword, Vira turned to the Elassian general, "What is your name?" she asked, "Rex…" he answered but still having his sword at the ready, Vira's ear perked up the name of the general "Rex Alaric?! As in The Rex Alaric?!" Vira was surprised that a renowned general from the Elassian Army would betray his own kingdom.
Rex simply nodded at Vira's deduction "Yes that is my name, now what is yours" Rex said to the female general in question, raising his sword and pointing it at her. "Easy now" Vira said, raising her hand "My name is Vira Adela, I mean you no harm." of course... Vira's soldier's were quite the opposite; they witnessed one of their own killed by the man in front of them, they wanted revenge but they didn't want to disobey Vira. "I apologize for killing one of your men but I doubt the rest would accept my apology." Rex said as he planted his sword to the ground and raised his hands to indicate his surrender, the little girl that's been hiding behind Rex the entire time meekly showed herself, standing behind Rex's right leg "P-please don't hurt him" the little elf girl started to plea for Rex's life. "Ma'am-" one of the soldiers spoke, "He killed one of ours, the girl can come with us but that man has to die." all of the soldier's agreed with that statement, but Vira already had a plan for Rex. And Rex hearing what the soldier said, and seeing the rest in agreement, readied himself but Vira remained adamant on keeping Rex alive, "Would you all think for a second! Bringing in an Elassian General would give, especially their best one, give us the advantage information wise! We can learn the enemies tactics and strategy, their objective here in the frontier!" Bernad, Vira's second-in-command agreed with her but the soldier's were split, a few still wanted to kill Rex to avenge their fallen comrade but the majority were in favor of sparing Rex for information, so the few that were wanting to kill Rex can only give up and wish for his death.
Rex was able to see through Vira's 'reasoning', there was clearly an ulterior motive to keeping him alive but Rex didn't know why; so all he could do was drop his sword and raise his hands in front of him so that the Brutians could chain him. A young Brutian soldier, still terrified of the Elassian general, came up to Rex and chained him and quickly retreated to his comrades after successfully 'capturing' Rex. The little Elven girl still hanged back behind Rex, "Girl, what is your name?" Rex tilted his head slightly to the right towards Elven girls direction but not fully turning to face her, "M-my name is Siris.." she replies meekly. "Siris, I need to you to stick close to Vira and listen to her, alright?" Rex started to talk in a gentle manner. After listening to Rex, Siris nodded her head slowly and started to walk towards Vira, "Siris was it? You aren't afraid of a beast-kin, are you?" Vira smiles and extends her hand out to Siris. Siris looks back at Rex and sees him nod, seeing him approve, Siris looks back at the smiling Vira and takes her hand and proceeds to move behind Vira. All Rex could do was simply smile at the Elven girl when she looked back at him again, the Brutian soldiers pushing him to begin walking back to their encampment.
