Chapter 192 - Civil Fight

Joon-ho and Hyun-ae moved cautiously through the dense, lush jungle, their senses heightened as they scanned their surroundings for any signs of movement. The rustling leaves and distant calls of exotic creatures created an atmosphere of tense anticipation. They were hunting for unaware enemies, hoping for an easy elimination to strengthen their position in the match.

Suddenly, a rustling noise behind Joon-ho caught his attention. His instincts took over, and he quickly crouched down. A blade missed his neck by mere inches, embedding itself into the trunk of a nearby tree. Joon-ho spun around, still crouched, his dual daggers at the ready. His blades aimed for the knees of his attacker, but the assailant reacted swiftly, jumping away and pulling their weapon with them.

Joon-ho recognized the familiar face of his attacker. It was Hana, Korea's second-best Fighter and a friend. They had sparred during their friendly matches among the eight friends, but this was the first time they faced each other in a serious, high-stakes setting. Joon-ho had seen Hana in action during the Weekly Tournament, so he had some idea of her capabilities. Hana, however, knew less about Joon-ho's true potential.

"Hana," Joon-ho muttered, both as a greeting and a realization of the challenge ahead. He immediately called out to Hyun-ae. "Hyun-ae, Soo-jin is around!"

Joon-ho's assumption was spot on. If he and Hyun-ae had teamed up, it was only logical that Hana and Soo-jin, both Fighters, would do the same. Hyun-ae's reply confirmed his suspicion.

"I see her! Soo-jin's here!"

The realization that they were facing a coordinated attack from two of their friends made Joon-ho and Hyun-ae reassess their strategy. Hana, known for her aggressive and skilful playstyle, was not an opponent to be taken lightly. Joon-ho knew he had to stay on his toes, anticipating Hana's moves while watching for any signs of Soo-jin's approach.

Hana circled Joon-ho, her eyes narrowing as she sized him up.

"So, we meet on the battlefield for real this time," she said, a hint of a challenge in her voice.

"Yeah, let's see what you've got," Joon-ho smirked, his grip tightening on his daggers.

Without further warning, Hana lunged at Joon-ho with a swift, powerful strike. Joon-ho dodged, countering with a rapid series of slashes. Hana parried his attacks effortlessly, her movements fluid and precise. The clash of their blades echoed through the jungle, a testament to their skills and determination.

Meanwhile, Hyun-ae kept her distance, her eyes darting around for any sign of Soo-jin. She knew that Soo-jin, as a fellow Fighter, would likely be close by, waiting for the right moment to strike. The anticipation of an imminent ambush kept Hyun-ae on high alert.

As the battle between Joon-ho and Hana raged on, Hyun-ae finally spotted Soo-jin emerging from the underbrush, her weapon ready.

"Joon-ho, she's coming!" Hyun-ae warned, preparing herself for the confrontation.

Joon-ho and Hana's intense duel continued, each trying to gain the upper hand. Hana's aggressive style was matched by Joon-ho's agility and quick reflexes. Every strike, every parry, and every dodge brought them closer to the brink, testing their limits and pushing their skills to the edge.

Just as Soo-jin closed in on Hyun-ae, the system's voice echoed through the jungle, announcing another elimination elsewhere on the map. The remainder of the ongoing match heightened the stakes, urging them to fight harder and smarter.

The tension was palpable, each move calculated, each strike deliberate. Joon-ho and Hyun-ae knew that to emerge victorious, they needed to outthink and outmanoeuvre their opponents. The jungle became their battleground, every tree and bush a potential hiding spot or ambush point.

Joon-ho's fight with Hana intensified with every passing second. He was starting to feel the strain as Hana's relentless attacks began to push him back. Her title as Korea's second-best Fighter was well-earned; her movements were precise, her strikes powerful, and her defence nearly impenetrable. Joon-ho's initial confidence was waning as he struggled to keep up with her.

He glanced toward Hyun-ae, wishing she could help him turn the tide of the battle. But she was locked in a fierce struggle with Soo-jin, each of them exchanging blows and parries in a display of skill and determination. Joon-ho realized that he was on his own for now, and he needed to find a way to survive.

Just as Hana delivered a particularly forceful strike that nearly disarmed him, a glint in the sky caught her attention. In an instant, she leapt back, narrowly avoiding a blade that whizzed past where her head had been. Joon-ho's eyes widened as he recognized the new arrival: Tae-young, Korea's number one Assassin. Tae-young had swooped in with such speed and precision that his blade had almost grazed Joon-ho's nose.

Friendly fire was always on in NexaRealm, a fact that Joon-ho was painfully aware of as he stumbled back to regain his footing. Tae-young barely spared him a glance before barking an order.

"Back off, Joon-ho. She's mine."

Without waiting for a response, Tae-young dashed after Hana, who had already started to retreat.

For a moment, Joon-ho watched as the two disappeared into the foliage, their battle carrying on out of sight. Tae-young's arrival was both a relief and a frustration. He was relieved to be free of Hana's relentless assault but frustrated by Tae-young's high-handedness. Joon-ho had hoped to prove himself against Hana, but now Tae-young had taken that opportunity away.

With a deep breath, Joon-ho refocused. Hyun-ae needed his help. He sprinted towards her, finding her still engaged in a fierce duel with Soo-jin. The two Fighters were evenly matched, each struggling to gain the upper hand. Joon-ho knew that tipping the balance in Hyun-ae's favour could turn the tide of this encounter.

As he approached, Joon-ho saw an opening. Soo-jin was momentarily exposed as she launched an attack on Hyun-ae. Seizing the opportunity, Joon-ho moved with the stealth and speed of his Assassin training, closing the distance in an instant. He struck at Soo-jin from behind, forcing her to break off her attack and turn to face this new threat.

"Really, Joon-ho? Teaming up against me?" Soo-jin barked, her eyes blazing with frustration. "This is unfair, even for you two."

"Sorry, Soo-jin, but it's part of the game. We all know the rules," Hyun-ae, sensing the shift in momentum, pressed her advantage.

Together, she and Joon-ho coordinated their attacks, overwhelming Soo-jin with their combined force. Despite her skill, Soo-jin was hard-pressed to defend against two opponents. She fought valiantly, her movements showcasing why she was a respected fighter despite being unranked. Her accomplishment of securing second place in the Weekly Tournament against Korea's best had earned her significant respect.

"Joon-ho, you've got to be kidding me! We grew up together, and now you're going to end me like this?" Soo-jin shouted, her voice tinged with betrayal.

"Soo-jin, you're amazing, but this is the NexaRealm. We all have to prove ourselves," Joon-ho replied, his voice steady but tinged with regret. He didn't want to hurt his childhood friend, but the stakes of the competition were high.

With relentless pressure from Joon-ho and Hyun-ae, Soo-jin knew she was at a disadvantage. Her eyes darted around, looking for an escape route. With a swift manoeuvre, she broke away from their coordinated assault, sprinting into the dense jungle.

"Damn it, she's getting away!" Hyun-ae exclaimed, ready to give chase.

"No, let her go," Joon-ho said, his eyes following Soo-jin's retreating form. "We should not pursue too much. This match isn't over yet. Other players may be waiting to ambush us."

Breathing heavily, Joon-ho and Hyun-ae took a moment to catch their breath. The jungle around them was eerily quiet, the sounds of battle distant and muted. They had survived another encounter, but the match was far from over.

Joon-ho's thoughts were conflicted. Seeing Soo-jin's frustration and hearing her accusations had struck a chord. They were all friends, but the competition was pushing them to their limits, forcing them to make tough decisions.

They moved through the jungle with renewed determination. Each step was a reminder of the stakes, not just in the game, but in their friendships as well. The match continued, with each team adapting and strategizing, ready to seize any opportunity to prove their worth.

As they navigated the dense foliage, Joon-ho's mind kept returning to Soo-jin's words. He knew this was a test of their skills and resolve, but it was also a test of their bonds. They had to balance the competition with the camaraderie that had brought them together in the first place.

The jungle was quiet, but the tension was palpable. With fewer players remaining, each encounter would be more critical. They couldn't afford to make mistakes. The friendships they had forged over the years were now being tested in the most intense environment imaginable.

With their resolve strengthened, Joon-ho and Hyun-ae pressed on, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. They knew that the path to victory was fraught with difficulties, but they were determined to navigate it together, no matter the cost.
