Chapter 164 - The Final Standoff

In the final round of the tournament, the stakes were higher than ever. Team Fire had been assigned the role of defenders, while Aerial took on the task of attackers. The game mode, Blitz, featured a ticking beacon at the centre of the map. The objective was clear: one team would protect the beacon, while the other aimed to destroy it.

Given Team Fire's closer spawn point, they reached the beacon first, fortifying their position with defensive tactics. Aerial, known for their speed and aggression, had to weigh their options. They could either rush in, risking everything in a single assault or retreat to strategize, knowing that a single mistake could lead to permanent elimination. With a thirty-minute game clock, patience and planning were crucial.

As the game began, the arena fell into an anticipatory silence. Both teams remained on high alert, carefully considering their next moves. The tension was palpable, with each player aware that one wrong step could cost them the match—and the championship. The atmosphere was electric, the crowd holding its collective breath, waiting for the battle to erupt.

In Team Fire's comm channel, a calm yet tense exchange of information flowed. Kang-dae, the Tank, was stationed closest to the beacon, his defensive capabilities a critical component of their last line of defence.

"Keep your eyes peeled," Kang-dae said, his voice steady. "They'll probably scout first, looking for weak spots."

Jin-kyong, the Marksman, was positioned at an elevated vantage point, her eyes scanning the surroundings.

"I've got a clear line of sight from here. Any movement, and they're getting a bolt to the head."

The Fighters, Soo-jin and Hana, were positioned to intercept any flanking manoeuvres.

"We're holding the left side. Any sign of them, and we'll call it out," Soo-jin checked in.

"Don't get too comfortable. They're probably planning something. They won't just rush in without a strategy," Hana added.

Sang-hee, the Mage, was central to their defensive setup, ready to unleash powerful spells to disrupt any coordinated attack.

"Remember, our strength lies in reacting to their moves. Stay alert and we'll counter whatever they throw at us."

The team maintained a tight formation around the beacon, each member holding their position but ready to move at a moment's notice. They had practised countless times for this exact scenario, each knowing their role and trusting their teammates.

"Check the perimeter regularly," Kang-dae advised. "We can't afford any surprises."

"On it," Jin-kyong responded. "No movement yet. They're biding their time."

"Good. Let's keep it that way," Soo-jin said. "If they want to play the waiting game, we're ready."

The tension grew with each passing minute, the silence of the arena mirroring the calm before the storm. Team Fire's strategy was clear: they would hold their ground, forcing Aerial to make the first move and responding with swift, coordinated force. As the timer ticked down, the anticipation in both the players and the crowd continued to build, setting the stage for an explosive confrontation.

Meanwhile, on the side of Team Aerial, tension was mounting as well. They knew Team Fire's reputation for stalwart defence, but they were determined to find a weakness. In-su, the third-best Mage in Korea, studied the battlefield intently from their temporary base camp.

"We can't rush into this," In-su said, his voice calm yet commanding. "Chin-hwa, scout the eastern ridge for any openings. Everyone else, remain ready to strike when we create an opportunity."

Chin-hwa, the second-best Marksman in Korea, nodded and silently moved into position to assess the eastern flank. His keen eyes scanned the terrain for vulnerabilities that could be exploited.

The Assassins, silent Assassin 1s in the darkness, nodded in acknowledgement of their orders. They were trained to move swiftly and strike with deadly precision, awaiting the signal from In-su and Chin-hwa.

In-su remained focused, his mind calculating the best approach. "I prepare an illusionary magic. We'll use it to distract their front line when Chin-hwa signals."

With their plan set, In-su's voice cut through the tension over the comm channel. "Stay sharp, everyone. This is our moment to turn the tide."

As the game clock ticked down, with ten crucial minutes already expended, Aerial's strategy began to unfold. In-su, Chin-hwa, and the silent Assassins moved with precision and determination towards their objective—the beacon defended by Team Fire.

In-su's voice cut through the tension over their comm channel, a calm directive amidst the impending chaos.

"Chin-hwa, take the lead. You three, follow his signal. I'm initiating the distraction."

Chin-hwa, swift and precise, led the charge from the eastern flank. His movements were fluid, a testament to his mastery as the second-best Marksman in Korea. He spotted the first sign of opposition—a flicker of movement from Jin-kyong, Team Fire's sharp-eyed Marksman, positioned strategically atop a cliff.

Jin-kyong's finger tightened on the trigger as she spotted Chin-hwa's silhouette darting between covers. She aimed, anticipating his path with a steady hand. The shot echoed through the arena, a bolt of energy streaking towards Chin-hwa's position.

Chin-hwa, however, anticipated the attack. With a swift sidestep and a well-timed roll, he narrowly avoided the projectile. His focus remained unwavering as he closed the distance to the beacon, aware that every second counted.

Meanwhile, In-su conjured illusions near Team Fire's defences. The illusions mimicked movements, creating confusion among the defenders. Soo-jin and Hana, Team Fire's Fighters, exchanged wary glances as multiple targets appeared on their radar.

"They're trying to divide our attention," Hana warned, her voice terse with determination. "Don't let them break through."

"Stay focused. We hold this line," Soo-jin nodded, her grip tightening on her weapon.

The Assassins, unseen and deadly, used the distraction to their advantage. They moved like Assassin 1s, striking from unexpected angles. One Assassin, code-named Assassin 1, slipped past Sang-hee's protective barrier of magical wards. The endless reflection of fake people made Sang-hee unaware of the slip. So with a swift and silent strike, Assassin 1 disabled Sang-hee before she could unleash her devastating spells.

[Aerial: Enemy Elimination!]

NexaRealm announced, marking the first casualty of Team Fire.

The arena erupted in cheers and gasps as the match intensified. Kang-dae, Team Fire's steadfast Tank, bellowed orders amidst the chaos.

"Fall back! Protect the beacon at all costs!"

Kang-dae positioned himself squarely in front of the beacon, his massive shield deflecting incoming attacks. His presence was a formidable barrier, buying precious seconds for his teammates to regroup.

Jin-kyong, undeterred by the initial miss, adjusted her position for a clearer shot. Her eyes narrowed as she tracked Chin-hwa's movements, waiting for the perfect moment to strike again.

Chin-hwa, relentless in his assault, reached the outer perimeter of the beacon's protective zone. He unleashed a rapid barrage of shots, each one aimed at weakening Team Fire's defences.

[Barrier integrity at 60%]

NexaRealm's system voice updated, the system reflecting the beacon's vulnerability.

With In-su coordinating from the rear, the Assassins continued their assault. Another Assassin, known as Assassin 2, engaged Soo-jin in a close-quarters skirmish. The battle was swift and brutal, ending with Assassin 2 gaining the upper hand and eliminating Soo-jin from the match. The thing is, the distraction of silhouette from In-su took away Soo-jin's focus on who was real and who was not.

[Aerial: Enemy Elimination!]

The system announced, capturing the moment.

Hana, now outnumbered and under heavy fire, gritted her teeth in defiance. She unleashed a flurry of strikes, buying time for her teammates to reinforce their defences.

The arena buzzed with energy as Team Fire fought desperately to hold their ground. Each movement, each decision, carried weight as the battle for supremacy raged on. The crowd's roars and the echoing announcements of NexaRealm underscored the high stakes of the showdown.

As the timer continued to tick down, both teams pushed themselves to the limit. Team Aerial, driven by their headstrong rush and determination to destroy the beacon, clashed with Team Fire's resolve to defend it at all costs. The outcome of the tournament hung in the balance, with every action shaping the narrative of victory or defeat.

As the intense battle unfolded, Team Fire found themselves increasingly on the defensive. With Sang-hee and Soo-jin eliminated, only Kang-dae, Jin-kyong, and Hana remained to hold the beacon against Aerial's relentless onslaught.

Kang-dae's imposing presence continued to be a bulwark, his shield bearing the brunt of Aerial's attacks, while Jin-kyong's precise marksmanship kept the advancing enemies at bay. Hana, despite being isolated, managed to maintain a defensive manoeuvre and attack around the beacon, desperately trying to buy time so that they could win by holding out.

On the opposite side, Aerial maintained their numerical advantage with all five members—In-su, Chin-hwa, and the three Assassins—still in play. Their coordinated efforts grew more aggressive as they pressed forward, exploiting every weakness and gap in Team Fire's defences.

In-su's strategic commands echoed across the battlefield, directing Chin-hwa's precise shots and the Assassins' stealthy manoeuvres. The morale among Aerial remained high, fueled by their momentum and the belief that victory was within reach. The contrast between the teams, with one struggling to hold their ground and the other pressing relentlessly forward, set the stage for a climactic conclusion to the Blitz round.
