Chapter 147 - The Day of Reckoning

The morning sun cast a golden glow over NexaCorp Korea University, illuminating the bustling campus as students and faculty members moved with purpose. Today was no ordinary day—it was the day of the semifinal and final matches. The air was thick with excitement and anticipation, a palpable energy that electrified the atmosphere.

Team Fire, comprising Kang-dae, Soo-jin, Hana, Jin-kyong, and Sang-hee, assembled in their dorm, preparing for what could be the most important matches of their gaming careers. They donned their uniforms with a mix of determination and pride, each member silently acknowledging the gravity of the day ahead.

"Alright, team. Today, we show everyone what we're made of. Let's play our best and have no regrets," Kang-dae, their ever-steady Tank, was the first to break the silence.

The others nodded, the weight of his words settling over them. Soo-jin, always the fiery Fighter, clenched her fists in anticipation. Hana and Jin-kyong exchanged a determined glance, while Sang-hee, their brilliant Mage, adjusted her headset, ready for the challenge ahead.

Joining them in their preparation were their three steadfast friends—Joon-ho, Kyu, and Hyun-ae. Although not competing today, they were integral parts of the team's support system. Joon-ho's mind was still partially occupied with Aerial's prowess, but today he was determined to focus on supporting his friends. Kyu, ever the silent supporter, and Hyun-ae, with her infectious enthusiasm, provided the moral boost the team needed.

As they made their way to the Game Building, they were greeted by an unprecedented sight. Crowds of students, faculty, and gaming enthusiasts flooded the paths, all heading in the same direction. The Game Building, usually bustling, was now teeming with energy, the excitement almost tangible.

Joon-ho couldn't help but feel a surge of adrenaline as they approached the entrance. Banners and posters decorated the walls, many featuring Team Fire and their formidable opponents. The semi and final matches had drawn a larger crowd than any previous rounds, with spectators eager to witness the climactic battles.

The team pushed through the throngs of people, their resolve hardening with every step. The Game Building itself seemed to hum with anticipation, the large screens displaying brackets and match times, reminding everyone of the stakes.

As they entered the preparation room, a hush fell over them. This was it. The day they had worked tirelessly for. Kang-dae gathered everyone for a final pep talk.

"Remember, no matter what happens, we fight as a team. We've prepared for this, and we're ready. Let's give it everything we've got."

They all placed their hands in the centre, a symbol of their unity and shared purpose.

"Team Fire on three," Kang-dae said. "One, two, three—Team Fire!"

With a collective cheer, they broke apart and headed to their stations. Joon-ho, Kyu, and Hyun-ae took their seats in the spectator area, joining the throngs of fans and supporters. The arena was a cacophony of voices, cheers, and the hum of excitement, but amidst it all, Team Fire stood focused and ready.

As the semifinal match was announced, the crowd erupted in applause. Team Fire took the stage, their faces a mixture of determination and calm. They would be facing a formidable opponent, but they were ready. The large screens flashed with their avatars and statistics, highlighting the strengths they would bring to the battlefield.

The commentators hyped up the crowd, discussing the strategies and strengths of the competing teams. The atmosphere was electric, the excitement almost overwhelming.

Joon-ho watched intently, his mind now fully on the match. This was the moment they had all been waiting for. The semifinal match would determine whether they would proceed to the final, and every second counted.

Team Fire's opponents for the semifinal match were the formidable Team Zephyr. Known for their strategic brilliance and cohesive gameplay, Team Zephyr was a force to be reckoned with. The match was set to be a best of three, with the first map being "Twilight Fortress," a sprawling castle environment perfect for intricate strategies and ambushes.

The game mode for the first match was "Control Points," a classic mode where teams compete to capture and hold specific locations on the map. This mode tested both strategic planning and real-time adaptability, requiring teams to balance offence and defence seamlessly.

Control Points, which is very similar to King of the Hill. However, except for one Hill, there are multiple Hills or Points. Five total Points to be exact, lined up on Twilight Fortress. So the team that can secure the most Points win the match.

As the countdown began, a hush fell over the crowd. The large screens in the Game Building displayed the map and game mode, the vibrant colours and intricate designs drawing everyone's attention. The match started, and the Game Building erupted in cheers. Team Fire moved with precision and coordination, their months of preparation evident in every action. The battle was fierce, each team vying for dominance.

Dong-yul, a seasoned commentator known for his in-depth analysis, teamed up with Soo-min, whose energetic style brought excitement to every match. The two provided a dynamic commentary that captured the intensity of the game.

"Team Fire is pushing hard to secure the first control point," Dong-yul noted, his voice calm and analytical. "Kang-dae is leading the charge with his impressive tanking abilities."

"Look at the two Fighters of Team Fire, flanking from the sides!" Soo-min added, her excitement palpable. "They're putting pressure on Zephyr's defence, creating openings for their Markman and Mage to take control."

The match was a back-and-forth struggle, with both teams displaying incredible skill and tactical acumen. Joon-ho watched intently, his eyes scanning the battlefield for any insights that could be useful. Team Fire's coordination was impeccable, their movements synchronized like a well-oiled machine.

As the first match progressed, it became clear that Team Fire had the upper hand. Kang-dae's resilience, Soo-jin and Hana's aggressive plays, Jin-kyong's sharpshooting, and Sang-hee's magical prowess created a formidable combination that Team Zephyr struggled to counter. After a hard-fought battle, Team Fire secured the first control point and eventually claimed victory in the first match.

The crowd erupted in cheers, the energy in the Game Building reaching new heights. Dong-yul and Soo-min provided a quick analysis of the match, praising Team Fire's strategy and execution.

The second match was set on a different map, "Sunken Ruins," an underwater temple with narrow corridors and hidden passageways. The game mode was "Payload," where teams must escort a moving objective to a destination while the opposing team tries to hinder them. This mode required continuous adaptation and teamwork, pushing both teams to their limits. First, arrive at the end and declare winner

As the match commenced, Team Fire once again displayed their tactical brilliance. Despite Team Zephyr's strong defence on their Payload, Team Fire managed to navigate the tricky terrain to disrupt their opponent and push their payload steadily towards its destination. The combination of Kang-dae's shielding, Sang-hee's crowd control spells, and the precise attacks from Soo-jin, Hana, and Jin-kyong proved too much for Team Zephyr to handle.

In the final moments of the match, Team Fire made a coordinated push, breaking through Team Zephyr's final attempt to stop and secure the payload's delivery. The crowd exploded in applause, celebrating Team Fire's advance to the finals.

The commentators praised both teams for their exceptional gameplay.

"That was an incredible performance by Team Fire," Dong-yul said. "Their coordination and adaptability were key to their victory."

"Absolutely," Soo-min agreed. "They've shown they have what it takes to go all the way. I can't wait to see them in the final match!"

With the semifinal victory under their belt, Team Fire returned to the preparation room to regroup and strategize for the final. The atmosphere was a mix of excitement and determination. They had one more match to win, and they were ready to give it everything they had.

As Team Fire gathered in the preparation room, the magnitude of their achievement began to sink in. They had made it to the finals, a testament to their hard work, determination, and unity. Kang-dae looked around at his teammates, seeing the same fire of determination in their eyes that he felt within himself.

"This is it," he said, his voice steady and confident. "One more match, and we can make history. Let's show them what Team Fire is made of."

With a collective nod, they turned their focus to the strategies for the final match, knowing that their greatest challenge still lay ahead. The air buzzed with a mix of nerves and excitement, but one thing was certain: they were ready to face whatever came their way, together as a team.

The anticipation in the air was palpable as Team Fire exited the preparation room and made their way back to the main arena. The crowd's energy surged, a wave of cheers and applause washing over them. Joon-ho, Kyu, and Hyun-ae joined the throng of spectators, their support unwavering. As Team Fire took their positions on the stage, they exchanged final words of encouragement, their resolve steeled by the journey that had brought them here.

The lights dimmed, and the announcer's voice boomed through the arena, setting the stage for the climactic battle. With the spotlight on them, Team Fire knew that this was their moment to shine, their opportunity to etch their names into the annals of NexaRealm history. The final match was about to begin, and they were ready to give it their all.
