Chapter 1 - The Mysterious Room

It was early in the morning, the boy woke up and got out of his bed as he stretched his body.

"I'll be heading towards the place mentioned in the diary I should bring the dagger with me because I should atleast have something to defend myself with when exploring a place with potential dangers residing within it." The boy thought carefully as he prepared the items he will bring with him when exploring the library.

Wearing the leather backpack and clenching the dagger that he held in his right hand he began to walk towards the library.

"I'm starting to feel slightly hungry... I should probably leave this ghoul infested place after I'm done with the library." The boy thought with resolve.

The library was located at the basement of the old building, the worn down wooden floor creaked as he walked past them before finally reaching the stairs.

-Creak

"This creaking floor is starting to annoy me, luckily the stairs are made of stone this time." He spoke with a mix of annoyance and relief.

His steps echoed throughout the narrow stairway as he continued to walk down the staircase, after walking down the stairs he soon reached the ground floor before commenting how it was unusually cold underground.

"Why is it so cold in here?" Clenching the grip on his dagger, he began to walk down the narry hallway.

Surprisingly enough the stairway lead to another narrow hallway and at the end of the hallway was a wooden door attached to the wall, walking towards it the hallways echoed which each step he took.

Feeling tense he unknowingly increased the grip on his dagger while constantly looking at his back because out of paranoia.

And then the sound of footsteps finally stopped he had finally reached the wooden door at the end of the hallway, the door was 4 heads taller than he was. Gulping a mouthful of saliva he tensed himself as he slowly pushed the door clenching the dagger tightly in his hand prepared to stab anything that lunges at him.

~Creak

The door creaked as he slowly pushed it open revealing a small room filled to brim with books, instead of your normal wooden or stone walls it was instead made out of bookshelves filled with books.

"This is..." The boy exclaimed in astonishment as he saw the towering bookshelves.

"Wow this place is huge! I wonder how I can find the secret room that the writer mentioned in his diary?" The boy wondered as he strolled around the small room which looked huge from his point of view.

Looking around he noticed a table and a chair in his left with lantern and a couple of books placed on top of it, the lantern was not lit up obviously he could see something poking out from under the desk... A small slip of paper? Anyway he decided to head towards the table and proceeded to look under the table where he had seen the paper slip. Reaching the paper slip with his hand, he then grabbed it and opened it before reading the contents written on the paper slip.

"Hello this is Kersett here, I just want to write down the steps on how to enter my secret lair (I decided to make it my lair) just in case I forget it. Since it's a method to enter my secret lair I decided to hide this paper that contained the method in a very secret place! Anyway back to what I was saying these are the steps on how to enter my secret lair. One of the bookshelves are movable so just move it aside and the entrance shall be seen and that's it! Welcome to my lair. I accidentally found this out when I was pulling the bookshelves out of a whim wait why am I writing this? While I'm at it hello future self did you forget the way to the secret lair hehehe."

"The writer is so energetic in his writing." The boy commented.

Inspecting the bookshelves near the wall he began to pull them one by one in an attempt to find the hidden room and after pulling on several bookshelves he finally managed to open the secret entrance by pulling the bookshelf and Hidden behind it was a wooden door, the entrance to the secret room mentioned by the writer of the diary.

Tense he gripped the dagger in his hands tightly before he slowly pushed the door open with his other hand, after he opened the door a falling dust assaulted his sight forcing him to close his eyes shut.

~Argh!!

"The dust is covering my eyes!" The boy exclaimed in panic while swinging his dagger around in panic.

Rubbing his eyes to clean the dust he slowly began to open them again and what he saw inside the room was enough to give kids Nightmare and make them cry but the boy only showed an ounce of curiosity before processing what he saw.

Inside the room was skeletal remains of 5 people, the skeletal remains varied in size with the smallest one lying on the ground next to another skeletal remain that is chained up on the wall, the other remains were scattered all over the room with 3 skulls placed in different direction and the pieces of their bones gathered in a single place as if it was a corner to dump trash in.

"I guess that's the body of the writer and considering that the body is lying next to the skeleton chained up on the wall I can assume that is the skeletal remain of what killed the writer, I feel bad for the writer I think he was lured by the person that was once chained up and got attacked before ultimately dying." The boy thought with pity as he looked at the skeletal remain of what he presumed was the writer.

Walking towards the the skeletal remains the boy observed them and saw fangs on the teeth of the chained up skeleton.

"A vampire? Let me atleast do this for you." The boy muttered tains of the writer before striking the skull of the vampire with his dagger.

After striking the skull of the vampire It mysterious crumbled to dust.

"Strange..." The boy thought before looking around the room again.

The room was small in size and the only things inside it was the corpses and 6 books stacked on top of each other.

Picking up the books the boy dusted them one by one as he began reading the text written on it, "Mana Circulation And Usage Manual, Artifact Creation Guide, Mimeisthai Combat Art Skill Book, Alchemic Creations Manual, Records Of Existing Creatures, And Codex Of Protection And Enhancements."

Reading the texts on the books out loud the boy couldn't help but be intrigued by it.

"This books are really interesting it all has strange titles, I wonder if the story are good?" Mistaking it for a story book like what he had read on his bedroom he looked at it with a curious gaze.

Picking up the books one by one he began to store them inside the bag starting with the Mana Circulation And Usage Manual and ending with the Records of Existing creatures, he didn't store the Codex of Protection and Enhancements yet because it looked peculiar compared to the rest of the books.

Picking up the Codex of Protection he began to inspect it, The Codex's cover was made of silver and was colored with grey. A Transparent gem was embedded in the middle of the Codex's cover garnering the boy's curiosity.

"This book looks strange." He thought.

Suddenly out of nowhere he was struck with an impulse to cut his hand and smear the gem of the Codex with his blood. The boy was curious aswell as to what would happen if he smeared the gem with his blood.

Picking up the dagger he winced at the pain as he cut his left palm and smeared his blood on the gem of the codex.

-Ugh!

After the gem was smeared with the boy's blood it began to shine and turned into a dull colour grey... Seeing this the boy was met with confusion as to why did it shine so bright only to turn grey.

"Did I do something wrong? Why does it look so lifeless and dead. Hah I really shouldn't have listened to my whim not only did I turn the gem from clear to dull I also cut my palm, well I should atleast get going now since I'm beginning to feel hunger it's time for me to leave this ghoul infested pla-" just as he was about to put the Codex in his backpack something popped up in front of his face.

"What is this?" The boy muttered as he swung his hand in the air in an attempt to touch the floating panel.

Seeing his hand phase through the panel he was intrigued as to how this was possible. Seeing the codex lying on the ground with the gem in the middle shining into a bright shade of blue he thought,"Would the panel disappear if I touched the glowing gem?" Following his thoughts he raised his left hand and touched the surface of the gem embedded in the middle of the codex.

The panel disappeared and the codex grew brighter and translucent as it slowly turned into particles of blue light that soon made it's way unto his right arm, soon after the glowing particles made their way towards his right arm the boy felt a burning pain as the particles engraved themselves into a pattern on the surface of his shoulder. Not feeling bothered by the burning pain he watched and observed as the particles engraved themselves unto his skin forming an intricate magic circle and a crecent moon in the middle, the magic circle released a bright grey hue that glowed underneath his oversized T-shirt that he was wearing.

"Looks cool." The boy commented as he touched the engraving that was imbeded into his arm. Suddenly the panel appeared once more before his very own eyes, curious he touched the glowing pattern on his shoulder once more in order to see what would happen and as soon as his hand touched the engraving the panel that was floating Infront of him disappeared asnif it didn't exist in the first place.

Gaining his attention and curiosity he began to experiment with the engraving and found out a couple of things, "Firstly the engraving can be used to open the panel, Second you can touch the engraving and summon the panel even when it is covered with clothes and finally Third the panel will only show up if you will it to show up and touch the engraving otherwise it wont appear." Elated by his discoveries he was about to experiment some more when he heard uneven footsteps coming towards him.
