Chapter 6 - Cultivation Technique

"Alright then. It's time to start your first lesson." Simon said with a gentle smile. "Today, your lesson will be about the beast taming and how it all started."

Hearing this, Alden could not help but get excited.

There was a lot of information on the internet about the world of beast taming. It was not restricted. The only restricted information was the information about the Beast Tamer Academy.

Alden had tried many times to get information on how the beast-taming started, and he had researched on the interned a lot. But he could not find any information. Since this was not information about the beast tamer academy, he asked his parents. Or so he thought.

His parents revealed to him that this was restricted information as well and that only those who went to the beast tamer academy knew. Since then, Alden gave up on learning about the beginning of the beast taming.

"We can not start talking about the origins of the beast-taming way and not mention the founder of the beast-taming as well as the founder of our academy, Victor Onyx." Simon continued.

"The source of information on Victor Onyx comes from his dairy.

He was an archeologist.

One day, when exploring the wilderness, in the depths of the forest, he stumbled upon an ancient ruin. A ruin of a powerful ancient civilization.

Inside the ruins, he found scriptures left by the ancient organization.

Being the archeologist he was, he could not resist the temptation and had opened the scripture. After reading the scripture, Victor Onyx was left in shock and disbelief. If the context of the scripture was true then he suspected that he had stumbled upon a world-changing treasure.

The scripture described that through cultivation, humans could gain supernatural powers. Power to destroy mountains and move rivers.

And what was even more amazing was that in the scripture Victor Onyx had found, there was a cultivation technique.

Victor Onyx did not waste any time and immediately started implementing the cultivation technique described in the scripture. He wanted to test the authenticity of the scripture.

It did not take long for his efforts to bear fruit. He had broken through the first realm, a 1-star warrior, and gained inhuman strength. This confirmed to him the authenticity of the scripture he found."

A female student raised a hand.

"Yes?" Simon turned to the student. "Do you have a question?"

"Yes. Teacher, isn't it an overstatement to say he founded the beast-taming? Didn't, in the end, he just find the cultivation technique in the ancient ruins?" The female student asked.

Simon smiled gently. "Don't rush. I am still not finished with the story."

"The years passed by, and Victor Onyx continued cultivating." Simon continued. "Eventually, he reached the 9-star warrior realm.

When he reached this realm, he gained a deeper understanding of the cultivation technique and the forces in his body.

When he reached the 9-star warrior realm, he stopped practicing and focused on research.

When he researched deeper into the energies in his body, he found that besides the spiritual energy, there was also another powerful energy located in his head.

He had named this energy, 'Mental Energy'.

With years of research, he discovered that the mental energy was not in his head. But there was a mysterious space within his mind that one could enter. He named this space the 'Mental World'.

When Victor Onyx entered the Mental World, he was still in a body. A body with the same features as his physical one, but he was sure that body was not his physical one because his body had a pale color and resembled a ghost. Thus, he named that body 'Spiritual Body.'

When he gained good control over the mental energy, Victor Onyx started creating a skill with the mental energy as fuel.

In the end, he succeeded in creating the skill, 'Soul Contract'. The soul contract allowed him to form a contract with a beast. Thus, came the existence of the Beast Taming way."

The classroom fell into silence. They were all fascinated and shocked at how much one man changed history. How much he contributed to humanity.

Even the children coming from powerful families were shocked. Their parents have never bothered to tell them how beast-taming started or who created the beast-taming way. Or they did not bother to ask. But anyway, this was their first time hearing this story too.

A student raised his hand.

"Yes? Feel free to speak." Simon said, pointing at the student who just raised his hand.

"Teacher, what is this mental world we have?" The student asked.

"Sighh!" Simon sighed in regret as he shook his head. "Since Victor Onyx created the Soul Contract, he focused on researching the Mental World. He discovered that every person has a different Mental World, but except that, he was not able to uncover the mysteries of the Mental World.

Since centuries passed since then, some outstanding researchers focused on researching the Mental World. But the mystery of the Mental World is profound. The only explanation we could think of is that the mental world is in some way connected with our consciousness or soul."

The classroom fell into silence.

Clap! Clap!

Simon clapped his hands with a gentle smile. "Alright, enough with the mysteries of the Mental World. Let's get back to the cultivation technique.

Centuries passed since Victor Onyx found the cultivation technique. And we have developed many cultivation techniques, some even better than the original cultivation technique."

Simon opened the large box he brought with him. "Unfortunately, we still have not developed a cultivation technique only for mental energy. So we beast tamers must cultivate our body too and absorb the spiritual energy.

As we break through the realms and gather more spiritual energy in our bodies, we also raise our mental energy."

When Simon finished speaking, out of the box, thin books flew out. The books were blue in color, and a book went to each student, falling into their laps.

"This is the cultivation technique," Simon said. "Don't forget to practice hard and not get left behind by your peers."

Alden took the book in his hands and was about to open it.

"I want to give you a few words of advice." Simon continued. Alden was just about to open the book and look at the cultivation technique, but as Simon continued speaking, he concentrated on what Simon had to say.

"Unfortunately, we have not developed a device to assess your cultivation potential, so only time will show whether you have the talent for becoming a beast tamer.

Not everyone is born for cultivation, and not everyone has equal talent. But, I want you to know that even If you do not have a talent for cultivation, you may have a talent for mental cultivation. And for a beast tamer, mental cultivation is everything you need.

So, as long as you practice this cultivation technique, no matter what talent you have, you will benefit. But even if you don't have a talent for any cultivation, you can still focus on research.

The researchers are equally important as the beast tamers. I would even dare argue that they are more important. After all, there are thousands of strong beast tamers but only a handful of prominent researchers."

Hearing the words of their teacher, Simon, Alden could not help but look at the thin blue book in his hands with mixed emotions.

'The teacher is right.' Alden nodded. 'Even If I don't have a talent for cultivation, I can still become a researcher.' Those were more thoughts of self-consolation. Deep down, Alden hoped he had a talent for cultivation.

After all, he knew that strength is the king. All the prominent researchers are strong beast tamers. They had to be. Otherwise, they would just become tools in the hands of the strong beast tamers.

"That is all for today's lesson. In the next lesson, we will learn more about the human cultivation. Don't forget to..."

Ringggggg!

Before Simon could finish his words, the bell rang, indicating the end of the class.

The students immediately started chatting with each other.

Simon smiled, and taking the large box in his hands, he left the classroom, closing the wooden door behind himself.

Many students, including Neo and Owen, had opened the cultivation technique.

"Hah!" Neo smirked, closing the cultivation technique. He quickly went over the cultivation technique and threw the book on the desk, uninterested.

Alden, who was just about to open the book, saw Neo's action and decided to ask the question he had under his tongue since meeting Neo.

"Neo, are you from a beast-tamer family?" He asked.

"I am." Neo nodded. "As you might have guessed, I have cultivated since young. But my family cultivation technique is different from this one, so I have no use for this one."

"Can you not switch between techniques?" Alden asked. Of course, he did not expect Neo to change his family technique for this one. He asked just out of curiosity.

"You can. If the technique you are switching to is stronger than your current one, then you will benefit. But it is not good to switch cultivation techniques often, even if they are better than your current one.

It is best to never switch your cultivation technique or switch it only once or twice during your life."

"Why?" Alden could not help but ask.

"Have you heard of the saying: Jack of all trades, but master of none?" Neo looked Alden in the eyes. "Each cultivation technique has the same principle of absorbing the spiritual energy from the air, but at the same time, each cultivation technique is slightly different.

Each cultivation technique circulates the spiritual energy in your body in a slightly different way. If you switch between cultivation techniques too much, you will become a waste.

In the later realms, the different cultivation techniques you have learned will clash with each other. Since every cultivation technique circulates the spiritual energy differently, the insides of your body will become a mess.

From each cultivation technique you will pick up some small habits. One cultivation technique will circulate the spiritual energy in one way, while the other might circulate it the other way. You can not control this as it will be a small habit you have picked up. And when the spiritual energy following two opposite paths meet at some point in your body, they would clash.

You will face great difficulties and backlash. You may even lose your life."

Alden could not help but gulp hard. "Thank you." He understood the dangers of switching cultivation techniques. And he was glad he decided to ask Neo. If not, If in the future he got a better cultivation technique he might have made the mistake of switching.

After he came to himself, he returned his attention to the cultivation technique in his hands.

Swoosh!

As Alden was just about to look at the cultivation technique, he got interrupted again.

The wooden door slid open, and their homeroom teacher, Linda, entered.
