Chapter 16 - Chapter 16

The whole place went quiet again. The whole room turned to see who made the bid, and they all saw the reporters flashing their cameras at Milo Ivanov.

The people began to talk amongst themselves.

"I know we are wealthy people but, do we really have to throw money around that much?" A woman asked her husband and another woman who was sitting at the same table shook her head "Apart from Milo having his own company, his parents are top tiers. If not for his parents, everyone here would be nothing. His parents could rival the government".

Another replied "Yes, that's true. If they should fall, we are all going down with them. You don't know how it will affect you now, but it would be really bad" she nodded her head.

The auctioneer hit his gavel again without asking for anyone who would want to go higher. He began to think this rich people really have something wrong with them.

The Alexandrite Heels was packaged and sent to Milo and the auction continued to unfold.

Amelia was watching as the auction went on when the worker who delivers the items won came to her with a package. She dropped it at her table "Ma'am, the man who won this asked me to deliver it to you" She said smiling, then she walked away. The people around who saw that gave surprised sounds and gasps.

Penelope looked at it and her eyes widened. She turned back and saw Milo walking towards Amelia. Amelia just looked at the package and smirked before turning back to look at the new displays coming up for auction.

When Milo got close, Brittney stood up from her seat "I want to go to the restroom" She said and left. Milo swiftly took her seat. He wanted to say something to Amelia, but Penelope spoke up "How could you buy this shoe of $100,000,000 and decide to give to this... Woman?" She asked Milo horrified.

Milo turned to look at her "Should I have given them to you?" He asked her and she looked at him dumbfounded "Th-That's not_" she tried speaking but the words could not leave her mouth.

Her mother saw this and decided to help her out "Milo, you know that's not what she meant. You spent a hundred million dollars on a shoe that was only worth thirteen million, and you gave it to her. It just doesn't make sense" Susan said to him.

He wanted to reply to her, but Amelia helped him out with that "Miss Susan, you don't expect Ivanov to be seen wearing heels now, do you?" She asked as she turned to look at the woman.

The other men sitting at the table looked at Milo weirdly, seeing how Amelia addressed him. He smiled cheekily "Don't worry. It's our thing" He said to them.

"And besides" Amelia continued "A hundred million is not something we should fret about, or are you having struggles financially?" She asked Susan. She implied that not being able to spend a hundred million without feeling moved meant Susan must be going down in her business. She looked at both mother and daughter before turning to look at Milo. Susan and Penelope glared daggers into her head.

"you must not like them" Milo said to Amelia. She sighed "They started it. What connection do you have with them?" She asked him and he answered "Susan is a very close friend of my mother. She was always trying to pair me with Penelope, so I see them a lot".

Amelia looked at him deeply "What did you say?" She asked him again. He looked at her "I said she is a very close friend of my_"

"After that" she interrupted him "Oh" he said "She was always trying to pair me up with her daughter, so I see them a lot". Amelia folded her hands "So you guys must have gotten really close then" she said to him, but he chuckled "No we have not. I don't like her at all. She always acts sweet and coy, but there's a bad wolf behind all of that. Besides, I already told my mother I have someone in mind" He said as he relaxed on the seat.

Amelia gave a slight hum "So you already have someone in mind?" She asked and he nodded "Yeah, you can tell that she's pretty just by looking at her. The only problem I have is convincing her that I like her a lot" Milo turned to look at Amelia "She doesn't let anyone get to her, so she probably doesn't understand the feelings I have for her even when I have shown it to her so many times" he said as he stared deep into her eyes.

Amelia scoffed and looked away "You can move back to where you were now. I won't say thank you for the shoes, because I didn't ask you for it" she said, dismissing him.

Milo, respecting her words, stood up and left, and that was when Brittney returned. She smiled at Amelia "Sorry I took a while" she said to her, but Amelia did not reply. She thought maybe something went wrong and decided to let it go.

"Okay everyone" the auctioneer called out "This is the time you bring all your cards to the table. This is that time of the night you show forth your strength" He said to them and everyone began to anticipate the next jewelry.

The jewelry was brought up and the cloth was taken off. The gasps that went out was massive. The auctioneer smiled.

"This is a royal crown. A beautiful and magnificent work of art that has been around for centuries. It has been worn on many heads of royalty, fought for by many men in power, but it went missing over twenty years ago. This crown was a project of Miss Susan. She found it after the long search and today, she has decided to auction it out for the well being of the orphans" he said and the crowd gave an enormous applause.

Amelia smirked and said to herself "Greedy fools. Too bad, I'm taking the baby home".

The auctioneer began to give the details of the crown. "From the beauty of the crown, you can tell it is made up of very priceless jewels. In this crown, we have white and black diamonds, emeralds, alexandrite and rubies. There are 3 carats of 1,246 white diamonds worth up to $42,987,000, 3 carat of 2,287 black diamonds worth $34,305,000, 3 carat of 25 Alexandrite worth $3,750,000, 4 carats of 40 Emerald worth $2,240,000 and 5 carats of 10 pigeon blood rubies worth $233,250. I'm pretty sure you are already doing the math in your head" he said and laughed.

"The bidding starts from $90,500,000" he said.

Everyone began to raise their paddles and bid

"$100,000,000" a man said raising his paddle

 "$100,150,000" another man said.

"$100,200,000" a woman's voice was heard. The auctioneer was not given the chance to call.

The bidding kept going up while Amelia stayed silent. Penelope looked to her and smirked 'Even if you won't go bankrupt, it'll definitely cause a hole in your account' she thought. "Hey Amelia" she called out to her and Amelia looked at her "I didn't know we had gotten so close for you to address me that way" she said to her, but Penelope kept smiling "Hmmm. Why aren't you making a bid on this one? It's an amazing crown you see" she said to Amelia, but Amelia looked away without giving any reply.

 "$200,500,000"

"$200,700,000". The biddings increased.

"The bid keeps going high Amelia. You better start making your bid now. Wait, are you scared you might go bankrupt?" She asked and laughed "This isn't enough to even cause a hole for you. Even if it does, you can just sell the crown to another person" Penelope continued, but Amelia still did not give a reply.

Susan placed her hand on her daughter's. Penelope looked back to her and Susan told her with her eyes to give it a rest. Penelope pouted a little, but she said nothing else to Amelia.

The bidding had gotten up to four hundred million when Amelia decided to make her move. She wanted to take it easy on everyone at first and just bid at $600,000,000. But after what Penelope said, she decided to blow off some steam.

 "$1,000,000,000"

"$1_" someone wanted to make a bid, but kept quiet after he realized what Amelia said. Penelope looked at her wide eyed. She was shocked out of her wits. Milo at the back kept smiling like a fool. 'Yeah, the woman I like is exactly my type' he thought.

The auctioneer was smiling. His emotions had hit rock bottom at this point. "$1,000,000,000 going once, going twice" he waited for a little while "Sold"

Amelia said without looking at Penelope "You are right, that's not enough to cause even a crack to my account" She stood up "Keep the crown. I don't need it" she said and left the place with Brittney.
