The barriers resulted from Adrian's [Obsidian Armour] and [Fey's Mana Core]. Although he had a low chance of triggering one of them, let alone all three, it happened, and Charles was taken aback.
He knew Adrian's poison and other abilities, but it was the first time he had seen him using barrier magic. Obviously, he had no idea it was all because of Adrian's gear and not some magic.
Meanwhile, despite the best efforts, the soldiers couldn't break through a single barrier, let alone three. But breaking through the barriers was the least of their worries.
Adrian revealed Hydra's Fang and cut down the ghost soldiers around him. With a single swing, he severed countless heads while maiming even more.
