Chapter 16 - Chapter16: Break through

The spell began. One of the large circles that hovered above the sbar began spinning. Before long, five sigils materialized and encircled the ball of essence. The ball shrank considerably and spun rapidly, transforming into a drill-like shape.

Sensing his mana draining rapidly, he quickly released the spell. With an aura-infused thrust of his arms, he increased the speed of the drill as it hurtled forth.

It shot toward the training dummy. The combined sigils created a potent force that tore through the air with incredible speed, before making contact with the dummy.

Instantly, Lukas's strike tore the training dummy apart, sending fragments flying through the air. It crashed against the wall with a thunderous impact, leaving a lasting mark. Lukas stood there, caught in a mix of awe, as he surveyed the shattered remains of the once sturdy dummy scattered across the room.

The force of his blow had even left a small dent in the wall, evidence of the immense strength he possessed. Gradually, Lukas regained his composure, taking a moment to catch his breath before moving on.

The numbers on the screen flickered before stopping.

Despite feeling exhausted from the strain of using up his mana, Lukas couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction and happiness as he observed the impressive damage that his attack had caused. While he wasn't entirely sure of the exact numbers and scaling of his abilities, he recognized that this outcome was a significant improvement from his initial attempts.

Lukas was acutely aware that if this devastating strike were to land on an opponent, whether it be a monster or any living being, it would undoubtedly tear them apart completely, if they weren't protected by some sort of aura or active mana shield.

"If I had that kind of strength..." he began to say, and then stopped in mid-sentence, remembering the image of a man with blood on his face smiling at the sight of danger with a hole in his belly. Lukas fell silent, glancing down at the mess he had made, then raised his saber again.

"I will make a difference in the future because to do so, I must become stronger," he mumbled, his eyes locked on the screen.

He pointed the deep black purple saber once again. This time the process was faster than before.

The essence formed quickly into a circle. He right away activated the spell. Just like before, all of the sigils activated.

This time, the mana consumption was reduced significantly and the spell felt more stable.

The spell launched forward, hitting the dummy on its head, completely destroying it.

The numbers on the screen flashed with a new set of data.

"Good, it's time for leveling up this thing. At least a few," he muttered.

And let the training dummy reset after ten seconds or so, before unleashing the spell once again. Despite costing a ninth amount of mana, he could feel that it was exhausting his mana rapidly.

Time passed after dozens of successful castings. He reached his limit. His training couldn't keep up with his mana recovery, despite significantly reducing its cost.

"Should I try to surpass my limit?" Lukas muttered, standing up and taking a deep breath before slowly activating the Mana circulation sigil.

The Mana circulation sigil, one of the necessary sigils for anyone who wields mana, moves the existing mana from the circle in one's heart throughout the whole body, significantly recovering mana from the surroundings.

But this also has a limit. Human bodies are fragile. They can't withstand prolonged mana suppression, and circulating mana exerts the same kind of pressure on your most inner organs.

As a result, for a normal person, activating the Mana circulation sigil three times a day is an impressive feat.

And here he was activating it for the fifth time. Hoping his body could withstand it.

Lukas could feel the strain on his body as he pushed beyond his usual limits. The mana circulation sigil worked its magic, but he knew he was walking a fine line. Beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he continued to channel mana throughout his body.

He began gritting his teeth as he suddenly felt pain in his heart.

He could feel that he was almost there. After one surpasses this usual circulation, it becomes easier and easier.

That's why, despite the pain, he couldn't give up. There was also another risk: failure of circulation could cause extreme internal injuries.

The strain on his heart intensified, but he pushed forward, focusing on maintaining the mana circulation.

As Lukas continued to endure the agony, a surge of energy accompanied by a tingling sensation coursed through his veins. It was as if he had breached a barrier within himself, unlocking a deeper connection to the mana flowing through his body.

The pain gradually subsided, replaced by a feeling of empowerment.

He succeeded!

He stood, clenching his hand. He could feel his body becoming slightly stronger, just feeling his mana regenerate so quickly.

He felt better and gained some confidence. He could not use these things in his previous life, but now he could.

He activated the spell one last time before ending the training for today.

It activated just like the previous one and tore apart the dummy completely.

He looked at the book's first page. It was time for him to name the spell.

With a thought, he transformed the saber back into a pen. The pages turned on their own before coming to the page with the title.

Yes, despite dozens of attempts, it did not level up. The reason was straightforward: the greater the number of sigils, the longer it takes to level up.

After thinking for a few seconds, he decided on the name "Spiraling Shot." He is pleased with his ability to name things. He dismissed his soul gear and stepped outside the training room.

He was about to collapse on the bed. He was mentally exhausted as well. But then he felt a foul smell. The source was him.

He sighed, completely forgetting. Surprisingly, the mana circulation cycle causes the body to expel hidden impurities.

He took a brief shower, cleaned the piled-up clothes, and threw them into the heater wave.

This dried the clothes in a few seconds.

After eating some of the bread, he ended the long and exciting first day at the academy peacefully, with his favorite small body pillow, of course.
