Chapter 8 - Chapter8: Basics Of magic

The Star Classroom

"Allow me to reintroduce myself, I am Corwin Evelim," the professor stated, casting his gaze upon his new students.

"I will be teaching you the basics of magic", he paused for a moment, observing the lack of reaction from the class.

"Furthermore, I will be overseeing the Star Group," he continued, finally eliciting the desired response. A smile formed on his face, creating a tense atmosphere in the room.

"I hold complete authority over your grades and have the power to expel you from the academy."

Seeing the serious faces of his new students with even the hot tempered ones focusing on his words after hearing what he said, except for one.

Siting at the back of the room, trying his best not to gaze at the student beside him.

In Lukas' head,

'How can she be here?'

'Yes, yes, considering her age, she should be attending the academy, but to meet her here...'

"How did I forget what year this is"

"It seems that I have too many things to account for"

(You! stand up.)

" Is this fate?"

"Like that time during my past life, Levia helped me and my allies countless times when the age of darkness descended, this time it seems it is my turn."

"Levia Darklyn," a vampire who will be known as the "Witch of Blood" in the future, yet with that famed name came along the memories and experiences she so detested, wishing they'd never come to pass."

(Can't you hear me, student?)

"Can't mess this up anymore, a debt incurred has to be repaid countless times,I need to save her and have her be my ally in this life."

-"but still, only as my ally. Not as ..." while he was thinkinh to himself, a cold hand poked the side of his stomach, sending a jolt through his body.

"Hhk!!"

Lukas stood up, widening his eyes, caught by surprise. The first thing he saw was the frowning face of the stern professor.

Lukas looked around at his surroundings. Everyone was looking at him with mixed expressions, some with contempt while others with pity, some curious about his fate at the professors hands while others didn't care at all.

He then looked at the culprit, Levia. She herself was shocked, never having predicted his strong reaction.

"Lukas Verdon! Pay attention to what I..." The professor spoke very sternly.

"...say. Come to my office after class"

Lukas gulped hard , He swore he could see a demon glaring at him from behind the professor no matter how calm he tried to seem.

"Yes professor, I will! I will!" Lukas repeatedly nodded his head up and down while saying that a few times.

He really was losing his composure after seeing her here.

"Now sit and be attentive in class", the professor slammed his hand down on the high desk in front of him to make his anger clear.

Lukas flinched and immediately sat down, sweat dripping from his forehead.

The students sitting near him felt the chills, realizing that this dude really fucked up this time. Some already started giving silent prayers for him. They can only imagine what will happen in the office after the class.

" Ahyaa" Lukas opened his mouth, no words came.

He already messed up on his first day at the academy. The dignity he wanted to establish had gone to waste.

He gave a quick glance to Levia, and as expected, she was looking at him strangely, keeping her distance.

"Aah, I'm screwed."

----

"Good grief, to lose my composure on the first day, I wonder if I will be able to survive the next four years, babysitting these young brats."

Corwin cursed his fate. As a renowned 5th circle magician, he had thought he could live and research peacefully after entering the renowned academy!

But no! They had to assign him these young brats. He could already see many weird ones, especially that brat Lukas Verdon. His soul power was immense compared to others, yet his behavior was completely unserious, daydreaming in his first class.

And the next one sitting beside him was even weirder. "A freaking vampire from the royal clan of Darklyn"

As he gazed around, more uncontrollable ones started popping up!

He could only imagine the pain they would cause him.

He sighed, accepting his fate. He knew he had to endure it. At least he could finally use the renowned research labs!

"Yes, I must endure!" He thought and resolved himself in his mind.

"Alright, students. Today we will dive straight into our studies. For information about the academy, rules and regulations, and available courses, you all wil need to read the rule books."

He spoke and tapped the ground with his feet. The magical circle beneath him activated and transparent screens appeared, floating around him.

Some students gasped in amazement, they were mostly the commoners and lesser nobles though.

That's exactly what he aimed for.

"First impression is everything, after all," Professor Corwin thought.

He swiped through the air, and a screen displaying a sigil appeared. With a tap of his finger, it expanded.

Finally, everyone could clearly see what was on the screen.

With a swift motion of his finger, the screen turned around and expanded.

"I assume you already know what this is. Can anyone tell me which sigil this is?"

Immediately, a student raised her hand, along with many others.

The professor looked at them for a moment before choosing one.

"Yes, student Mia."

Lukas turned around. It was a beautiful woman with long white hair, wearing thin, oversized glasses.

Just by looking at her, one could tell she came from a high-ranking noble family of the empire.

"Professor, that's called a pathwave sigil," she spoke confidently, adjusting her glasses.

"Hmm, good. You may sit down. But can anyone tell me what changes I made?" Professor Corwin asked.

This time, no one raised their hands. Seeing Lukas also looking at it seriously, he was satisfied.

"The thing I changed was the gates. Many call it connectors and many call it exhaustion. But I call it Gates. The more you have, the more outputs it gives," he paused for a second, checking if some of them understood or not.

As expected, some already grasped it. Among them was, of course, the one who stood up earlier.

But not everyone understood and was frowning at the circle. This was to be expected, as no one was allowed to train in spells until they awakened their elements. And that was also the reason for this course.

"Basics of Magic. During your three years here, I will teach you how to identify sigils, what each sigil does, and how you can utilize and affect specific situations. Does everyone understand?" he spoke, swiping his hand to remove the big screen.

He made another screen pop up.

"But first, let's make something clear for everyone about how magic works," he spoke, and as expected, some of the students lost focus.

"I will still give a brief lecture about it. And I assure you, those who don't listen will have their credit points deducted."

"Hehe, I will bully you all too," thinking that, Professor Corwin started with the origin of magic.

"Commonly called mana while some call it qi or energy. It has many names. We don't exactly know when this strange power started appearing in the atmosphere."

"There are many tales about this, but let's skip those things for now," he spoke, waving his hand. The circle beneath him glowed before a transparent screen appeared.

"Let's directly delve into how one can utilize this power. As everyone knows, this strange power can be utilized through what we call 'sigils'."

"In scholarly terms, they are known as the symbolic laws of the world. They shape this very reality"

As soon as he finished speaking, the glowing white stones all over the room turned off, plunging the whole room into darkness.

The Professor continued to weave his hand, and the screen floated right above everyone's head. It began to glow, showing dozens of different kinds of sigils, each glowing with their specific colors that represent them.

"We call them sigils, the symbolic forms which we can utilize by manipulating mana and affecting reality within what we call an aura zone"

" Let's skip aura zone for now as everyone knows that one cannot form an aura zone before reaching 3rd circle"

"Aura zone", A combination using mana and aura forming an invisible forcefield where one can utilize the elements freely.

Lukas focused now as he is finally learning magic. The long awaited path which he never had the chance to explore before.

"Sigils can be endless, just like the laws themselves. Scholars are still to this day striving to create and combine existing sigils, following in the footsteps of renowned magicians, ancestors, and the founder of Owsdin Academy. The last living Dragon, the emperor who ruled the world for tens of thousands of years, Owsdin."

"Not everyone can comprehend the powers and laws that surround us. This means that not just anyone can learn sigils."

The professor paused, then continued, "There is a myth in the world today that suggests a magician's power is defined by the size of their magic circle. However, this belief is not entirely accurate."

Screen hovering above them changed showing a small fireball.

" A basic spell, which only uses one sigil named Sigil of burst"

" Now, let's add another sigil" Professor corwin spoke.

The flame flickered a bit, And couple of sigils popped up before disappearing. The simple looking fire ball started expanding and small miniature red balls started circling it

"This is the result of combining fire ring and minature gates. As a result, a deadly fireball explodes upon contact, posing a significant risk of injury even to a magician at the peak of the second circle"

Some students gasped in understanding as they'd seen people performing magic and now they understood how it was done.

"Another common misconception is that when advancing to a higher circle, the spells from lower circles become useless," the professor clarified.

—whoosh!

All of a sudden without warning, the fire ball started spinning, And started expanding like a stick.

"A combination of sigils from two other second circles, as well as a few from the first circle, can result in another powerful spell that is deadly enough even for a fourth-tier mage if they are caught off guard."

The spell hovered above the heads of the arrogant students, who now looked serious. Lukas, like everyone else, was also trying to understand the unfolding new world before his eyes.

"Magic knows no limits if you truly grasp its essence"

Everyone nodded in understanding ,like chicks pecking at rice.

A smirk appeared on the professors face.

"But actually it's not true"

The fire ball changed turning back into its normal self.

" Of course, Magical spells are limitless by combining various kinds of sigils"

"But the problem is, how many you can control at a time and visualize at high speed."

The fire ball vanished before three magical circles appeared.

"At tier one, a magician with only one circle can draw up to three spells. In simpler terms, they can use a total of six sigils with various effects. Well of course there are genius who can utilize more, but still"

"This means that no matter how impressive a simple spell may seem, if you cannot handle the sigils properly, it becomes useless. This can lead to spell failure and even potential injuries"

"We refer to this concept as authority. It doesn't matter how many elements you possess; if you cannot handle the appropriate number of sigils, everything becomes useless"

The screen Disappeared with a tap of his leg, the white stones started lighting up one by one.

"Does anyone have any q..."

Levia: Ehk!.

Before he could finish speaking a student raised up his hand along with many others.

Corwin felt happy seeing this. This was what he wanted afterall!

And Seeing among them was the trouble maker, Lukas verdon. He felt more happy.

" Student Lukas"

Lukas couldn't contain his excitement and stood up.

The fascinating workings of magic consumed his thoughts after all since his past life he had been longing for this "magic" and now that it was so close, he wouldn't hold anything back in learning everything about it.
