Hex crouched in front of his mother, gazing into her satisfied gaze. Even though she was overjoyed to see him, there was agony evident in her countenance.
"Mum, I am here!" He took hold of her arm and placed her hand on his cheek. He was still crying profusely and flooded with emotion, he lived an entire life without a mother and now she was right before him once more.
"Hex my boy, you saved me," Looking through Hex as if he were someone else, his mother remarked in a low voice. "You look the same but seem all grown up."
With a strong nod, Hex showed her that she was able to see through him. "Mum, I came back to save you, I came back to protect you! You are safe now."
His mother hesitated waving her look around and down to her gut pumping out blood. It was a dreadful injury she wasn't sure she would get through.
With a somber tone that made Hex's pulse race, she said, "Hex, I am so glad you came when you did, I am glad to see your face again."
"Don't talk like that! Y... You.... You... Are.... You are not gonna die.... Mum!" Hex's breathing became labored as his sobbing became more intense. Had all his fighting been for nothing?
Shaking her head, Hex's mother tenderly grabbed his shoulder and pulled him into a cozy embrace. "Don't cry my little Hex! I am going to die soon so make up a brave face for me."
'Brave face, are you kidding me! You're going to die I can't do anything but cry now.'
Fwooosh! Booomm!
With thunderous thuds, two things fell from the sky: one was Becca with Wease on her back, and the other was a massive guy dressed in the Cursed Slayers' outfit.
With all his strength, the man sprinted towards the woman and Hex, getting to them quickly. He cast a quick glance and quickly assessed the whole scenario. "Maria, Hex? What.... what happened?"
"Kosan?" Maria who was Hex mother managed to mutter under her tears.
'Kosan, that's my father's name!'
Despite his best efforts, Hex was unable to release himself from his mother's grip.
"I see you are resting quite well," Kosan formed a tough look. Despite not being a tearjerker, he nonetheless found himself fighting back a wall of tears that were about to spill.
"Haha! You always find a way.... To make me laugh." Now her breath was stammering. There was obviously not much time left in her.
"Remember the time we came to the orphanage and promised we would raise a child together?" Kosan questioned, glancing up at the gorgeous heavens.
"Yes, I do. You desired a calm one, but I chose the rugged, endearing, thick-headed variety, exactly like you," Maria chuckled a bit as she recalled the sentimental experience. "We would parent at a level of difficulty if we were going to raise a child."
"Yes, we pledged to raise Hex together; he is our son," Kosan murmured, his voice growing icier with each syllable. "Then why.... are you leaving me.... all alone?"
Maria shook her head, "Kosan I can only say sorry and nothing more, please forgive me."
Kosan gave a fierce shake of his head, tears finally welling up in his eyes. "I love you Maria."
"I love you Kosan!" Maria eventually closed her eyes, giving up on her battles and allowing herself to go into a deep slumber.
Although this hurt her, it was for the best.
Kosan ducked his head and looked at Hex, who was also crying uncontrollably. 'Mother, son and Father meet for the very last time.'
"Captain Kosan, what shall we do next?" Becca was curious. Even though it was a tragic spectacle, they could not afford to linger here idle, waiting for the next Cursed one to emerge.
She fixated her gaze on the dragon's carcass. 'This boy must have slain the dragon; even though he is young, he may have been the sole one who did.... And he did it to save his mother. He must be through hell right now.'
Kosan bent his back and grabbed Hex by the waist, wrenching him from his mother's death grip and lifting him to his shoulder.
Hex squirmed at first, but quickly calmed down when he saw his mother's corpse placed over his father's other shoulder.
For some reason, he could not believe she was dead; just a few seconds before, she was breathing and sound, but now her head dropped down and her face looked expressionless.
'She died, I didn't do anything! I could not save her, and I failed to change the timeline! What use is power when you can't use it to rescue all that you loved. If I had slain the lightning dragon sooner or in one shot, this would not have happened. It's my fault for being so stupid....'
{No Hex, it's not your fault}
{If I had given my all to you, maybe you would have saved her, but still I don't understand human emotions}
{There was an emotion you made me all to farmiliar with, in your past life and now, it's grief and somehow it is developing in me}
{So now I share your grief master}
'It is not your fault.' At this moment, Hex was emotionless.
In his previous life, he had learnt that feeling this way would not alter anything, and it was something he would never forget.
Fwluuup!
Captain Kosan and Becca took to the skies, heading toward the Innerwood dorm.
There was nothing left here to wallow about, all that could be done had been done, and all that could have been evacuated had been evacuated.
The rest were left to death's choice.
{I do not comprehend your emotions Master Hex}
'We changed a lot of things Phantom, I saved Wease and talked to mum before she died. She was smashed to blood and bones in my first life but here we can bury her and I can bring her flowers every year.'
{Are you saying we saved her}
'No! I am going to influence every single result I can and put an end to whatever phenomena is creating the Cursed Ones race!'
Hex's attention turned to the fallen barrier of the Outwood dorm, where hundreds of dragons, giants, and Earth dwellers were streaming in.
"Wease's dream Is also mine now. I will not wait in this cage to get eaten one day, I will go out there and make sure to end their race.....'
....Forever....
