Chapter 7 - Revenger's System (2)

A while before Quinlan was accused of being a pervert, inside a different white space, another soul was waiting cautiously. The one waiting, Meng Yinuo, was standing with her back straight. Her eyes were narrowed as she stared forward, zoning out while passing time.

"As expected, this isn't my inner world... A spirit world?" She muttered after analyzing her current location.

She was raising her guard at first, but slowly lessened her vigilance since nothing happened even after a few minutes passed. In the end, her mind started to wander off from the suspicious space and instead started thinking about why she was there.

Slowly, her memory started to return. "Right, I was hit by the Soul-Destroying Lightning and..."

Although that should be the case, looking at herself, she noticed that her soul was still in one piece. That further confused her, as the world's laws should've been absolute. Getting hit by the Soul-Destroying Lightning should've destroyed her soul, shattering it into a billion fragments.

Just as she was getting more and more curious, a blue screen suddenly appeared before her. Surprised, Meng Yinuo jumped back immediately. Her eyes narrowed as she prepared herself for an incoming attack.

"...!"

However, while trying to protect herself, she just realized that she couldn't muster even a sliver of her Qi, much less her spiritual energy.

'What's going on?!'

Panic started to hit her as she thought the milliseconds that she spent standing idly were fatal. However, no matter how long she waited, no attacks came. To add to that, the suspicious blue screen stayed in place, not moving an inch.

Unable to hold back her curiosity any longer, Yinuo moved closer to it, just enough for her to read the words on the blue screen clearly.

[For hundreds of years, you spent your time enacting revenge against those who were responsible for the fall of your sect. Your hands had been stained with the blood of countless innocent lives.]

[If given the chance to redo everything from the start, would you still traverse the same path as you did?]

"Is this scroll an artifact?" Meng Yinuo muttered as she inspected the floating screen.

When she tried touching it, her hand simply passed right through it, making her think that the display was some spiritual artifact that couldn't be touched.

"Anyway, a chance to redo everything? Then I'd surely go down the same path, regardless." With a proud look, she responded. "I am a Sword Cultivator. The only path I take is the Path of the Sword. Nothing more, nothing less."

The blue screen flickered before vanishing right after she finished answering. Not knowing what to do, Meng Yinuo waited for a while, thinking that the spiritual artifact must be evaluating her answer.

Soon after, right as she predicted, the floating blue display reappeared before her.

[Congratulations! You have been selected as the First Host of the Revenger's System. You have lived a life filled with too much carnage.]

[Your heart burns with rage and the desire to mete punishment on your adversaries. Such a path would be nothing but an empty one in the end.]

[You are an out-of-control cultivator. To fix your bugged soul, you will be sent to a world where violence is not always the best solution, the world of the Second Host. Please enjoy.]

"..."

Meng Yinuo read through it and frowned. "In a world where violence isn't the only answer...? then what are you expecting me to do there? Act like a saintess or something?!" She roared in anger.

She still had a lot of things to say, but before she could lash out against the blue screen, her vision started fading. In panic, she tried to resist the force, but it was futile. Her consciousness faded, and the power affecting her was unable to be stopped.

At that moment, Meng Yinuo's vision turned black. Only the nasty words from the system's window were etched to the back of her eyes, unfading.

---

When she regained consciousness, the first thing she noticed was her inability to move. Her eyes were shut tight, her ears were only hearing a bubbling sound, and her mouth and nose were completely unresponsive. It was as if her body was in suspended animation.

'What's happening...?' She wondered to herself.

Despite not being able to open her eyes, with just her extra sense, or Mind Eye, she could still observe her surroundings. Judging from what she could "see," she seemed to be floating inside a large canister filled with some sort of viscous light-green liquid.

Her body refused to move an inch, no matter what she did, making her feel extreme dissatisfaction.

[Cultivator Meng Yinuo's soul has successfully integrated with Student Quinlan Gaudin's body.]

[Revenger's System First Function: Two-way Telepathy Unlocked!]

[First unlock bonus: Telepathy Recharge (+24 hrs)]

The system display suddenly appeared before her eyes, despite her vision not working. It was a mystic event, but Yinuo took it as if it were normal, digesting the content and acting upon it immediately.

'Telepathy!'

As soon as she willed it, her senses expanded, traversing worlds and reaching a familiar location. It was a beautiful garden filled with her long-forgotten memories of her childhood. There, she could also see her "young" self, a beautiful girl seemingly of ripe age, touching her own chest.

"...!"

That wasn't a part of her memory at all. It was largely different from what she could remember!

Soon, information started getting processed in her rapidly turning mind, reaching a single conclusion. "That Second Host or something is inside my body!"

As soon as the realization hit her, anger flared, and she roared as loud as she could. "YOU GODDAMN FUCKER! HOW DARE YOU TOUCH MY BODY?!"

Within her view, the figure's body jumped in surprise, looking around in panic.

"WAIT FOR ME THERE AND I'LL RIP YOUR ROTTEN SOUL TO SHREDS!" Meng Yinuo threatened, but as fate would have it, she couldn't act upon it. "DAMN, WHY DOES THIS BODY REFUSE TO MOVE?!"

After the other side returned to their senses, they started to talk to her. Meng Yinuo was weirded out at first, listening to her own voice, but quickly disregarded it as she had no time to waste listening.

Meng Yinuo tried to gather her Qi, about to launch a mental attack through the telepathic connection, but failed. Frustration hit her like a runaway truck, making her lash out at the other party.

Just as her anger and worry were reaching the breaking point, making her mouth run by itself, a series of blue windows popped into her view. Yinuo read everything and started to wonder.

[From this day on, you will be living as Quinlan Gaudin (20) with no cultivation. This world isn't as lawless as your previous world, and the original body's owner still had dreams that have yet to be achieved.]

[In ten days, an event that will change Quinlan Gaudin's life will occur.]

[First Quest: Reach the Qi Refinement 1st Stage within 10 days.]

[Success Rewards: Switch Card (10 min) x 1]

[Failure Punishment: A Fate Worse than Death]

"What the hell did I get myself into...?"
