Chereads / SOUL DISK: The Apex Behemoth / Chapter 3 - Raid Party

Chapter 3 - Raid Party

The city gates closed behind Ethan with a heavy thud, sealing him out of the city and in the vast wasteland beyond Solace Keep. The reality of the daunting journey ahead sank in, and the once-fiery determination within him flickered like a dying flame. The Apex Behemoth Soul Disk, once a beacon of hope, now felt distant and elusive.

Lost in his thoughts and the sea of competitors, Ethan's internal struggle was interrupted by a familiar voice cutting through the crowd. "Ethan! Over here!" The voice echoed through the air, and as he turned, he beheld Lena standing atop a massive bus adorned with the emblem of a raid party.

His surprise shifted into a mix of emotions—joy, confusion, and a lingering sense of guilt from their previous encounter. Lena's eyes met his, and she beckoned for him to approach. Without hesitation, Ethan navigated his way through the crowd toward the bus.

As he neared, the logo on the bus became clearer—a symbol of a united force, raiders and scavengers working together. Raid parties were a common sight in the wasteland, comprised of individuals with diverse skills—raiders focused on battling monsters and clearing dungeons, while scavengers specialized in uncovering relics within ruined cities.

Reaching the base of the bus, Ethan looked up to see Lena with a warm smile on her face. The awkwardness between them hung in the air, an unspoken tension from their previous conversation. Lena, perceptive as ever, sensed his discomfort.

She heaved a sigh, breaking the silence. "Yo, don't stress about it. I get it. We all say things we don't mean sometimes." Her words were genuine, a reassurance that melted away some of the guilt Ethan felt.

A small smile played on Lena's lips as she continued, "We're best friends, right? And best friends forgive each other." She extended her hand, a gesture of camaraderie.

Ethan's eyes softened with gratitude, and he reached out to shake Lena's hand. Her understanding and forgiveness were a balm to his troubled soul. "Thanks, Lena. I really messed up back there."

Lena chuckled, "You did you fucker, but it's okay. Now, let's focus on what's ahead." She pointed to the emblem on the bus. "We're part of the same raid party now. The Beacon Raiders."

Ethan was surprised at the sudden statement Lena made.

"we? Raid party?? Beacon raiders???" he mumbled.

Lena heaved another heavy sigh, this time it wasn't accompanied with a smile.

"hey Ethan, look around" she said as she pointed at the other raid parties that were preparing their gear to venture into the waste lands.

"do you notice a pattern?" she asked, but Ethan was too clueless to know what she was talking about.

"you fucker" Lena sighed as she held her face in disappointment, she wondered how a clueless fool like Ethan even found the courage to dare even think about wandering into a ruined city in the waste lands.

"listen to me as I will only explain this once" Lena instructed

"a scavenger going into a ruined city alone is literally suicide , that's why they team up with raiders for protection, while raiders deal with the monsters around the dungeon rift and go in to raid the dungeon, that's when scavengers can safely scavenge for relics in the city..okay?" it was a mouthful for Lena but she hoped Ethan had understood enough.

"ah geez Lena, you say it like I'm an idiot, of course I understood" Ethan said under a shy breath "what I don't understand is how YOU are part of a raid party!"

"Ha! I'm not, my uncle is the leader of this raid party, my dad talked to him to assist you if you still persisted in going to the ruined city and of course I gently persisted to accompany you guys" Lena said with a smirk.

"haa, somehow I feel pity for Arthur" Ethan's said as his gaze shifted from Lena to the emblem on the bus, a newfound sense of purpose stirring within him. The Beacon Raiders represented an opportunity for redemption, a chance to overcome the doubts that had clouded his mind.

The tension of the moment dissolved, replaced by the camaraderie of a shared adventure to be. Lena's playful punch landed on Ethan's shoulder as she teased him for sulking, "Now, let's get you settled in. We have a long journey ahead, and who knows, you might just find a Soul Disk for yourself."

Ethan grinned, a spark of determination reigniting within him. The wasteland awaited, and with Lena by his side, the journey seemed a little less daunting. As Lena's uncle 'Kale' raised a commanded for every party member to enter the bus and they climbed onto the bus together, the engine roared to life, and the Beacon Raiders set out into the unknown expanse beyond Solace Keep.

The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a warm glow over the wasteland, and Ethan couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of hope. The journey was just beginning, and with each passing moment, the promise of adventure beckoned them forward.

The interior of the Beacon Raiders' bus hummed with a low, steady vibration as it traversed the rugged terrain beyond Solace Keep. Lena guided Ethan to a corner of the bus where a commanding figure sat, overseeing the various raiders and scavengers. Lena's uncle, Kale, embodied the spirit of a seasoned raider, his rough appearance telling tales of countless battles and triumphs.

Uncle Kale, a man of upbeat character, sported a wild afro and a beard that seemed to have a life of its own. His body, well-built and adorned with body armor, bore the marks of a man who had weathered the harshness of the wasteland. A gauntlet adorned one of his arms, a symbol of his strength and resilience.

As Lena and Ethan approached, Kale looked up from a map spread across a makeshift table, a grin forming on his face. "Lena, my favorite niece! And who's this young scavenger you've brought into the fold?"

Lena grinned back, "Uncle Kale, meet Ethan Skylar. He's interested in finding a Soul Disk in the ruined city."

Kale's eyes sparkled with a mixture of amusement and genuine interest as he extended a firm hand toward Ethan. "Ethan Skylar, the spirited scavenger! I've heard about your quest, lad. Takes a lot of guts to venture into the wasteland in search of a Soul Disk."

Ethan shook Kale's hand with a newfound sense of respect for the seasoned raider. "Nice to meet you, sir. Lena' hasn't told me a lot about the Beacon Raiders."

Kale chuckled, a hearty sound that resonated through the bus. "None of that 'sir' business, Ethan. Just call me Kale. We're all comrades on this journey."

As the trio settled into conversation, Kale shared stories of his youth, recounting tales of daring exploits and narrow escapes.

"I like men with spirit, Ethan. Reminds me of the good ol' days when I was a hot-blooded scavenger like yourself." Kale said to ethan.

The camaraderie between them grew, and Lena chimed in with her own anecdotes, weaving tales of their past adventures. It was clear that the Beacon Raiders were not just a team; they were a family bound by a shared purpose.

After a while, Kale stood up, his presence commanding the attention of the entire bus. "Listen up, everyone! We've got a new member in our ranks today. This here's Ethan!, and he's got the heart of a true adventurer. Treat him like family, just like we do with each other."

The bus erupted in cheers and greetings, and the other raiders and scavengers welcomed Ethan with open arms. Kale continued with the introductions, highlighting the key members of the Beacon Raiders.

"Alright, let me introduce you to the core members of our team. First up, we've got Raine and Blaze, our frontline raiders." Kale pointed to two individuals, a fierce-looking woman with dual blades strapped to her back (Raine) and a burly man wielding a massive warhammer (Blaze).

"Next, meet Mirage and Surge, our tactical raiders. They handle the strategic side of our operations." Two figures stepped forward—one adorned in sleek, stealthy attire (Mirage), the other with a calculating gaze and an array of gadgets (Surge).

"Lastly, our support raiders, Viper and Luna. They keep us patched up and in fighting shape." The spotlight turned to a woman with a medical kit strapped to her side (Viper) and another with a bow slung across her back (Luna).

"And of course, we've got our invaluable scavengers. They may not be as flashy, but they're the backbone of our operations. Team, let's show Ethan here what it means to be a Beacon Raider!"

The bus erupted once again, this time in a unified cheer that resonated with a sense of camaraderie and shared purpose. As the introductions continued, Lena gave Ethan a reassuring smile, signaling that he was now a part of something greater than himself.

With the Beacon Raiders by his side, Ethan's journey into the wasteland took on a new dimension—one of adventure, camaraderie, and the promise of the unknown. The bus rumbled forward, its occupants bound by a shared destiny and the pursuit of the riches beyond the wastelands.

The wasteland stretched out before them, a vast expanse of mystery and danger, and as the Beacon Raiders ventured forth, Ethan felt a surge of anticipation for the challenges and discoveries that awaited them in the ruins of the old city.

The bus trundled on, leaving behind the familiar sights of Solace Keep and plunging into the untamed wilderness, where the echoes of monsters and the remnants of dungeons beckoned the Beacon Raiders into the heart of the unknown.
