When Xiang Ling returned to her courtyard, she not only found Fu Xiao inside the bedchamber but even Xin Cheng. While the former's presence comforted her, the same couldn't be said about the latter's sudden appearance. A chill ran down her spine when the man noticed her presence and turned his deadly eyes toward her.
She almost forgot how to breathe as she stood frozen at the entrance while the Third Master Xin took long strides toward her and came to stand right in front of her. Despite the Masters not having a close bond, Xin Cheng was glaring at her with a murderous gaze as if he was furious after seeing Wei Guang's current state.
It took everything inside Xiang Ling to keep her ground and not show exactly how terrified she was suddenly feeling under his fierce stare. She found the current situation ridiculous. She was an Immortal with divine powers. If she wanted, she could easily handle a mere mortal no matter how deadly he appeared. Yet, something deep inside her kept telling her that despite her strong powers, she was no match for the man standing in front of her, and she wondered why.
The sharpness in Xin Cheng's eyes morphed into mockery and a smirk appeared on his lips as he spoke, "What bad luck are you having today? Not only did you face an accident this morning but now you have to struggle to save the life of one of your slaves. But why bother this much? Even if he died, you can always pick another one."
Xiang Ling stared at the man in shock. The way he spoke, there wasn't even the slightest bit of worry in his tone for Wei Guang. Instead, his tone carried only hostility, anger, and mockery for her.
She took in a deep breath to collect her courage and then spoke in the calmest tone possible. "What I'm doing or want to do is none of your business. If you are not here to help, then you can return to your courtyard. Don't bother me unless you have anything important to say."
She was not the previous Xiang Ling and there was no way she would allow anyone to treat her like she was some sort of horrible person. Although she knew that she needed to work hard to change everyone's opinion of her, she was still getting tired of facing their constant hatred toward the previous Xiang Ling. After all, she was the one facing their hostility and not the previous owner of the body.
On the other hand, if she ever got the chance to meet the previous owner of the body in the netherworld, she would take her sweet time in setting the accounts straight with that damn woman.
Not wasting any moment, she brushed past the man but not before noticing the shocked expression on his face from the corner of her eyes. She headed straight toward the bed and settled down on the edge. Just like she ordered, Fu Xiao had put another thick blanket over Wei Guang. A wet towel was placed on his forehead while a brazier was set near the bed.
"Good work." She praised the girl and once again noticed another person getting shocked by her shift in behavior.
Returning her attention to Wei Guang, she lifted the towel and checked his temperature only to find that he was still burning. She washed the towel in the cold water and squeezed out the excess water before placing it back on the man's forehead.
The rain outside started slowing down and within half an hour, it completely stopped. Neither Fu Xiao nor Xin Cheng left the room and stayed with Xiang Ling who kept changing the towel every five or so minutes to bring down Wei Guang's temperature.
Xiang Ling was about to ask Fu Xiao to go out and check if Wen ZheYuan was back or not when the Fifth Master came running inside the chamber.
"Lingling, I bought the medicine..."
He was out of breath and looked as if he had run miles, yet, there was a bright smile on his lips as if he looked directly at Xiang Ling with his sparkling eyes.
She stood up and walked toward him to get the packets of herbs from his hand. Though there was a prescription written by the owner of the medicine house, she didn't need one to brew the medicine. During the ten thousand years of her cultivation, she had traveled through all three realms, learning about various specialties and medicine was among many skills she learned while cultivating in Lotus Forehold, a medicine sect located on an isolated island in the Mortal Realm.
She turned her attention toward Fu Xiao and spoke, "You stay here and look after First Master. I will prepare the medicine." She then hurriedly left the courtyard and headed toward the kitchen. Once there, she made sure that she was all alone before she used her powers to light up some charcoal and collected it in the earthen pot. She then set a small earthenware above the pot and filled it with boiling water before adding the herbs to it.
Along with her immortal powers, she also had access to her space. Though she couldn't use her powers directly on Wei Guang to heal him, she could use her treasures to help him. Among all her treasures, there was a bottle of divine star water that could heal even an immortal's body. She added a drop of the divine star water to the brewed medicine before heading back to her courtyard.
What she didn't notice was the man who was watching her from the shadows.
