Spectre succeeded in effectively landing a couple of hits on the Blind Mole-rat by managing to distract it those couple of times.
What he usually did was to hurl a few gemstones in a different side of the cavern. This sound of the gemstones on the floor would force the creature to head over there. Thus, leaving itself exposed to a surprise whacking from Spectre.
Simply put, his attack pattern was something like this: hurling a gemstone — waiting for the mole to move — sword strike — then fleeing.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy!
But this was getting hectic as Spectre had to be quick with it. The creature was getting adjusted to this unchanging pattern.
Moreover, his element of surprise also relied on his speed to work and his speed was not much yet.
"At least that counts for something," he panted.
