The notification of a Critical Hit spurred Damon on. He was more motivated to take down the Green Mantis, seeing that his strikes could actually touch the Magic Beast.
His dying faith in himself and his battle skill began to rekindle.
Damon had managed to finally land a blow, striking at the Green Mantis' joint and precisely in between the well spaced joints, given the size of the mantis, where its body was weakest.
It paid off and the result of that attack infused Damon with more resolve to keep fighting.
'Come on, Damon. You can do this.' His words of self-encouragement fueled the flames inside of him.
Even though he was outmatched by the Green Mantis, Damon was glad that he had the opportunity of battling the Rank 4 Magic Beast.
