Chapter 26 - Enemy territory

I passed out like a pathetic little loser, didn't I? Oh, for God's sake, I can never get something done without making myself look like a fool! Dam, you writer! I know you do it all on purpose! Stop it already!

And what the hell was the cursed series supposed to be anyway? Was that my OP isekai ability?! No way! I got like the worst power ever! Sure, it's helpful! But if it knocks me out and leaves my body useless, then what kind of backward power is that?!

Also, why can't I move?! I have been trying to open my eyes for the past few minutes but can't. It feels like I have paralysis of some kind. Dam, so the curse messed me up that badly?!

No, I was definitely not going to reuse that power. It's really cool and powerful, but the drawbacks are just awful! If these are the effects of a single spell, I don't want to find out what it does when I push it hard against some other magic.

Besides, I'm already working on a gun prototype. Once I get the concept to work, I should be limitless when building other weapons with the same materials.

My problem comes with the "Make it work" Part. Not even Alexander, an expert engineer, knows if it'll work, and he knows his stuff, or so I'm told. I have yet to see him work, so I'm just going by what I have heard of him.

Regardless of his skill, what if the world doesn't allow me to make such a thing? What if that stupid Goddess put up a barrier against the concept or something? It wouldn't be so crazy to think so.

Some more rustling goes on outside, and finally, I can open my eyes. I was in bed or something with David asleep in a chair beside me. Aw, how cute. I should reward him once we return to the castle.

Naturally, I looked down to inspect my body and noticed that it was covered in black, fire-like burns. Yikes! It didn't look good, and it hurt when I pressed on the spots even slightly.

I wanted to know what the spots were, but of course, since I have no access to this world's system, I can't scan it or appraise it myself. It was a little pain in the ass if you asked me.

I wonder if I could make a machine to scan things like this through a special lens, just like Frieza's soldiers in DBZ. Oh! Cut it out! I was a complete Otaku before I died! I can't help but make references, alright!

Now, was I on about? I got a little carried away there. Oh, yeah, a scanning machine. I'm getting ahead of myself; we don't even know if the palladium can process magic as if it were a human magic core.

Yet, it would open a whole new world for me if it did. I might be unable to process Magicules myself, but no one said I couldn't make machines to do that for me. Hehe, I was going into total Sci-fi mode on a fantasy novel.

But then again, I was a reincarnation who got killed in less than twelve chapters, so going sci-fi wasn't too crazy. No! Anabel, stop it! Stop the copium! It's not good for you!

"Miss Anabel!" Alexander shouted from across the room. When had he even gotten there?

"What happened? Did we escape safely?"

"Yes, but we are still in danger. One of the Shadows returned this morning and told me that the crown already knows of the situation, but support will take at least a week to arrive."

Well, that didn't sound good. What was I supposed to say? I don't know anyone from a royal family, and I have feeble communication skills when it matters; oh man, what do I say?

"Do we know if the lord of this land is friendly?"

"I checked around with the people in the market, and it looks like he's our enemy. It is not surprising, considering this region already tried to win its independence from the crown a few years ago."

You idiot! How come he hadn't told me that? Of course, he wanted me as a hostage! Why wouldn't he take his shot if it's the same lord? I was far from safety and only rode with non-warriors and a few Secret Service soldiers.

It was the perfect time to try something funny! Especially if the area had previously attempted a coup. I had messed up by coming here and was in real trouble. What do I do?!

Think, what does a powerless brat like me do when confronted with trouble? Do I just wait it out in here? No, I can't. People will eventually hear that the princess might hide in this hotel, so what do I do?!

"What did you do with the horses?"

"I had to leave them outside the city around some trees. The guards were looking for anyone riding a horse and interrogated anyone riding them."

Dam! We didn't even have a fast method of transport at our disposal. Now we were cooked. Could I even run if I wanted to in the state I was in? I needed to know, so I tried standing up, but my body felt so dam weak.

"Miss Anabel, you have been cursed with a mighty curse. I bought some holy water from the cathedral earlier and was hoping it would help you, but it has barely been able to keep you alive. We need more potent holy water from a central city."
