"Are you going to go on a monologue or something?" David interrupted.
James glared at him, "Do you want me to tell you?"
"Okay, okay, go on!" David said.
"So Master Rowe must have told you about his so-called 'mates'. am I right?" James asked.
"Yeah, his friends, who are also very strong and passed on their skills to players or other natives of the world", David replied.
"Well, these companions aren't exactly friends; they're more like the intertwined roots of a shared legacy. Master grew up alongside them, and they all had a common teacher, the first Necromancer. Our master was the one who inherited his teacher's legacy of Necromancy, but all his companions were nothing less, either. They all have reached the pinnacle of their classes, which specialise in Death energy."
"A few decades ago, he used to refer to them as 'Brothers'. But a few of these guys were interested in having the legacy of Necromancer for themselves. Master experienced harsh betrayals and was on the verge of death when he escaped to this small town.", James said.
"No wonder he thought the path of a Necromancer should be undertaken by someone who likes to fight alone", David muttered. He knew that every Special class came with its backstory, but it was his first time getting involved.
"So Master Rowe cannot transfer Death energy to me like his master did?" David asked James.
"No. Even Master hasn't reached that level of proficiency as his own teacher. But as he grows old, his urge to pass on the legacy grows stronger. When players started entering the world, he thought that there would be a player who would be strong enough to take on the challenge. That's when I recommended you to him." James smiled.
"Okay, so is it possible that I won't get the class even after going through all this?" David smiled while gritting his teeth.
"Totally"
"And you couldn't tell this to me before?" David asked.
"You didn't ask."
"Damnit. I am taking this class even if I have to wake up the first Necromancer to give it to me." David grunted as he got up. "Thank you, James. I shall now go to Master Rowe."
"Good luck. I hope you are the one." James gave a genuine smile before David left his house. He quickly rushed towards the graveyard, only to find two people talking inside the hut. He secretly crept near the window, trying to peek inside. One of the figures was Master Rowe, but David couldn't understand who the second person was. The figure wore a cloak, and the face was covered with a mask. He tried to listen in on the conversation between the two.
"What do you want, Cedric?" Rowe asked.
"You know very well what I want", the man behind the mask said with a rough yet dominative voice.
"Master left the clues to his legacy for all her students. I know as much about her legacy as you or Markram does", Rowe said agitatedly.
"And how can I trust you? Just like Master made you the heir to her Necromancy, maybe she left extra clues so that only you can attain her legacy", Cedric said.
" Do you want me to talk about trust? " Rowe said with a heavy voice as the hut started to shake. Suddenly, bones erupted from the ground as they headed straight for the man with the mask, who gently snapped his fingers, instantly turning the bones to dust.
" As I thought. You have gotten weak! " Cedric said as he stood up, "No wonder you are hiding in this town like a coward. Away from your brothers and sisters."
At that moment, Rowe's eyes turned black as the weather around the graveyard changed. David looked in the sky to find a vast green portal had been opened and an enormous hand made of bones for heading straight for the hut.
"Seems like I struck a nerve", Cedric said as his lips curved up, revealing a smile behind the mask. He pulled out a pair of daggers and lunged towards the hand with an incredible speed.
-boom-
The hut exploded as Cedric leapt into the air, releasing giant slashes of mana to counter Rowe's attack. Rowe also took out his staff and cast a spell, causing giant projectiles made up of bones to hone on Cedric.
"YOUR PITIFUL ATTACKS CAN'T DO ANYTHING!" Cedric shouted in the air as he leapt from bone to bone, heading straight for Rowe with an incredible speed. Rowe countered Cedric's daggers using his own staff as they engaged in weapon combat, with neither giving the other person any opening.
David had trouble keeping up with the insane speed of these two monsters, but he could sense that Rowe was losing.
"Don't you feel ashamed?" Cedric grinned, his tone dripping with mockery. "You left your own students to die so you could escape to this pitiful little town. I wonder what our master would think if she were alive."
Rowe, his expression contorted with rage and sorrow, erupted in response. "You guys betrayed me! I called you my brothers and sisters! And what did you do in return? Kill my entire family for this damn legacy," he shouted, his voice echoing with the weight of betrayal. With bloodshot eyes, Rowe propelled himself towards Cedric as multiple green portals appeared all around Cedric and arms made up of bones erupted from them, trying to trap Cedric.
"Didn't master tell you about it! The Necromancer is destined to die all alone. That is the curse for trying to become the ruler of life and death." Cedric grinned as he cast a spell, releasing a sudden burst of mana, destroying Rowe's attacks.
Cedric leapt towards Rowe, but suddenly, a loud sneeze rang in the graveyard. Both Rowe and Cedric glanced to their side, noticing a young man wiping his nose with his hands.
David smiled, realising he would be in a bit of trouble. "God bless me."
