Chapter 8 - Block the view

On the other side, instead of stepping back, Mingshen's assistant, Bojing was dashing ahead like a marathon to chase after the kidnappers' van.

After talking to his boss, Bojing gave it a long thought about leaving it all to Jia and the cops. But whenever he thought about the little girl getting kidnapped, he felt a tightness in his chest that pained him immensely.

As someone who was locked up and suffered badly at the hands of a psychopath doctor who did shady and cruel experiments in an illegal orphanage during his childhood, Bojing understood the pain more than anybody else.

His beautiful face turned white at the thought of the innocent little girl ending up being smuggled to a similar facility. He didn't wish for her or any other child to face such a sorry fate as he had in the past. He burst into tears all over again and went through another round of self-blame.

After crying to his heart's content and coming to a decision, Bojing wiped his misty eyes which shone with determination to help out in any way he could.

"I won't sit still till sis Jia finds out about the kidnappers. If I could reach the little girl first and then her rescue her... It's only been a few minutes. T-they might not have gone so far. I can still try to reach them if I try!"

Bojing hadn't come in a car to the toy shop and neither did he have the time to ask somebody from the Yang family to dispatch a car to his location, so he ran straight ahead at full speed to chase after them without a second thought.

He adeptly ran forward as his eyes were fiercely glued to the road in search of the white van. Upon running all the way to the Second Ring Road, he found the busy street crowded with big cars and trucks.

"Ugh…So many cars…"

Bojing anxiously looked left and right and at one point behind a truck finally saw the glimpse of the van he was looking for.

"The little girl! I found her!"

He beamed brightly as if he found his salvation and without any further delay, he crossed the road towards the van.

*HONK HONK*

It was a reckless crossing to the other side. The car drivers behind him were angrily honking the horn to let him know about it. Some even had to abruptly put on their brakes.

"Hey! The heck you are crossing now! Can't you see my car coming!?"

"Hey you want to die or something!? At least don't jump in front of my car!"

Bojing jolted with all the cursing and yelling, and tears pooled in his eyes. He gave them an apologetic look.

"I am so-so sorry. I-I am in a h-hurry…S-Sorry for bothering you. Please forgive me if you can…" though he tearfully mumbled that response under his breath instead of saying that loudly to the drivers.

As he was closer to reaching the van, he witnessed something shocking that he couldn't understand the purpose of doing so. But within a minute, it clicked his mind.

No…Sis Jia would never be able to find them if they do that! I need to stop them now!

Amidst the rows of cars, Bojing caught Danya's little figure just for a moment before she disappeared from his sight. But it was enough to tell him that Danya was unconscious. His wet eyes glistened with fury, and his knuckles cracked with a thirst for violence.

How dare they! They made her unconscious. What if it would be dangerous for her health!

He saw the van leaving and he panicked seeing it gaining speed.

I cannot lose them again!

Not caring about anything else, he sped ahead to save her but crashed with an incoming bike on his way. Bojing fell on the road, suffering an injury in his abdomen. His expression paled, thinking of the van picking speed and going further away.

The biker got out and exclaimed. "Hey, are you alright!? You just suddenly came in front of-"

Bojing ignored the pain in his stomach and jumped back on his feet. In front of him stood a boy who seemed to be a college student with a bag slinging on his shoulders.

He hastily thought for a moment, then pushed the student away and hijacked his bike.

"Um…what are you doing?"

"I am really very sorry but I urgently need your bike!" Bojing cried with his cheeks growing wetter.

The college student was left speechless. "Say what? No way. I-"

"I apologize if y-you get late to the class because of m-me, but…" he sniffled and looked at him pleadingly, "if I don't leave now, some innocent girl might never get a chance to attend any classes ever again…"

Bojing pressed the accelerator and said, "I will c-compensate you as s-soon as I am done. Th-Thank you so much! I will forever be in your debt!"

Mingshen sat cross-legged on his chair as Jia and Huojin were checking out the surveillance cameras again and again.

"You won't give up, will you Spicy?"

"I won't rest until I save Danya and see her safe and sound," Jia shot back without turning her gaze from the monitor even for a second.

"That stubbornness is what I like so much about you, Spicy~ I love this feisty side of yours!" He sparkled.

Officer Xiyang choked.

I-Is he confessing to Superitendent Song? And in front of everyone just like that!?

Jia carefully studied the surveillance inch by inch.

What are we missing…

Why did Huojin's team find the van empty?

She moved her irises to the left and then at the right. Then she paused and said, "Stop."

She pointed her finger at the footage of a camera on Second Ring Road. She squinted her eyes for a few seconds after which it struck her.

"They changed the car in which they took Danya."

Officer Xiyang asked, "Huh? Where? I didn't see anything."

"Because they purposely blocked that space. Look at this big truck here. It's blocking the camera's view at the back. I understand what they did now. They used the truck and the camera's limited angle to hide the car changing. They got out of the original van at the signal, stepped into another car with the truck blocking the camera's view, and then someone else drove that first van to the fake place where Huojin's team headed."

She touched her chin thoughtfully. "That's why there were four kidnappers. I thought it was overkill for four big adults to capture a little girl who could hardly put up any resistance. Except for the driver, one was more than enough. But they needed two more because they were required to stay back and drive the van to a fake location to lead us astray."

Mingshen cocked his brow, amused.

"Play this footage again. We have to follow that car which was behind the truck. This will give us Danya's real location."
