Chapter 27 - CHAPTER 27: CONFRONTATION

She didn't feel convinced at all. From the moment that she left the mansion, she felt as if there was some deep secret that some of her siblings were aware of that she didn't know.

And whatever secret that was, it had something to do with her and she didn't like how she was the protagonist of the story and yet didn't know anything about it.

Just what exactly are they hiding from her? How huge was the secret and why did it seem to have something to do with Zara?

Just what did the little girl do again?

However, when Ashely thought of her older sister Raize, one of the people who seemed to know the secret, she knew that it would be useless if she were to go there.

But Demel was different. The two of them were born with mistresses, so their bond could be said to be better when compared to the legitimate children of their father.

And Demel seemed to know about this secret that was driving her crazy.

And since she couldn't sleep without getting to the bottom of the story, she decided to go and confront Demel and seek answers from him.

As it was late, Demel would probably be at his house. The other was forty-two years old, married and had kids.

He was dedicated to his family, so unless there was an emergency at the hospital where he was the director, he would be at home with them.

So, Ashely didn't need to look far, as she drove directly to his house.

No matter what, she was going to get the answers that she needed.

When she arrived at Demel's place, which was a villa in a secluded villa complex, one of the many villa complexes in Kuville city, the gateman just let her pass through.

All family members were already registered, so it was quite easy to visit one another.

When she arrived, the butler welcomed her respectfully.

"Welcome, Fourth Miss!"

Ashley smiled at the middle-aged man and responded, "How have you been, uncle?"

"I am doing pretty well. And you, Miss?"

"Life is treating me well and I am getting more famous each day!" she proudly said, forgetting about all her worries at that moment.

The butler smiled at her, obviously happy for her. After all, who in Kuville didn't know about Ashley's past?

"I am glad that it's like that. You deserve the reward of your good work."

"I am glad to hear that. Is my brother home?" she asked shortly as she looked around.

"Yes, he is inside. Please follow me!" the butler responded before leading the way.

Ashley engaged with the butler on a few topics as she followed him inside. When she entered the villa, she found Lettie, Demel's wife, coming from the kitchen holding a tray with some snacks and beverages.

"Fourth Aunt, welcome!" Lettie warmly welcomed Ashely as soon as she spotted her.

Looking at her sister-in-law, honestly, Ashely didn't understand what her brother found in her to be with someone like her. She didn't come from any rich background. Lettie was an orphan who grew up struggling as a child.

She wasn't pretty, nor was she that superb. Was it her tenacity or gentleness that her brother was attracted to? Honestly, she no longer cared at this stage.

Since she wasn't the one married to the other, why bother stressing herself?

Besides, Lettie was good at one thing, she knew how to serve properly her in-laws. She didn't act pompous and face people like that, Ashely didn't have a choice but like the other.

As long as the other person doesn't scheme against her or poke her, Ashely would mind her own business. That's the kind of person she was.

"Thank you, Lettie. How are you and the kids?" she asked politely.

Since she was in another woman's house, she still needed to show some respect.

Just because the house belonged to her brother didn't mean that she had to disrespect Lettie, the wife that Demel picked and decided to live the rest of his life with.

Just like how she didn't want to be mistreated one day if she ever got married one day, something that she wanted. She wouldn't mistreat other people's daughters, too.

The golden rule always applies to everyone. Do unto others what you want them to do unto you.

She wanted to live peacefully with her in-laws, though she found doing that very hard when it came to Zara. With Zara, she doubted if others could really live with her peacefully.

Even the Saints at heart would definitely quit.

"We are all doing well. Thank you for asking!" Lettie answered politely with a smile on her face.

"I am glad to hear that," Ashely nodded her head in response.

"Your brother knows that you are here. Please follow me to his study!" Lettie informed Ashely.

"Sure, you lead the way."

With Demel knowing about her visit, it made things easier for her. She just followed Lettie to the study which was on the ground floor.

Moments later she and Lettie were in the study and Ashely spotted Demel, this illegitimate brother of hers, looking very dashing.

Just like Bradley, Demel took after their father's good looks. He was born a charmer, something that was quite advantageous while growing up.

Lettie placed the tray on the table before excusing herself.

"So, why are you here for?" Demel asked as he stood from his chair before making his way to where Ashely was seated.

Ashely raised her brows and looked at Demel, who was pretending as if he didn't know the reason why she was there.

"Second brother, why don't you just give it to me straight why I am here instead?"

"Hehe," Demel chuckled softly as he approached Ashely.

"Brother, this isn't a laughing matter!" Ashley angrily said as she looked at Demel, who seemed to be enjoying himself.

"Why can't I laugh? I just didn't think that a day like this would come." Demel shook his head helplessly as he said that.

'What is this bad feeling?'
