A plump woman in an apron approaches us.
Her gray hair is tied back into a bun. There's a rosy hue to her cheeks and the tip of her nose. She has an infectious, friendly smile that instantly puts me at ease.
She has the air of a woman who's owned this place and run it for a very long time.
She sets plates down in front of us all. It's a strange sort of meal she'd rarely seen before. A thick bread bowl sat on the platter, filled with a rich stew made of roast potatoes and a variety of greens.
The stew is so thick, I hesitate to even call it 'stew'. Next to that, she's provided us a bowl of vegetable soup. It looks like the heartiest meal I've had in a while, even if the portion isn't the biggest.
Roland dives into the meal immediately, slurping down mouthfuls of stew with no concern for anything other than getting the food into his body. Typical of Roland, really.
