Chapter 42 - Festival

When I wake, there's sunlight. It's painfully bright, and I have to squint a bit before my eyes adjust. Lucas is talking with someone at the door of the room, and I...am laying in a bed with a bandaged arm.

It already feels better without the arrow sticking out of it, though. I groan and press my hand to my forehead.

My head hurts.

Novel, given it's my arm that got the arrow in it.

"You're awake!" Lucas calls, beaming with relief. "Finally, geez! I was worried there. Guess you really are as tough as you bragged you were."

He strolls up to the bed, reaching over and lightly swiping a knuckle against my cheek. I swat his hand away with a snarl and his smirk widens.

The jerk.

"Oh, you really are back. I'll go tell the guard."

He strides over to the door and speaks in a hushed voice to a guard. While he gossips, I sit up in the bed, already shifting to get up.
