Chapter 34 - The Carriage

I pinch the bridge of my nose.

The urge to immediately drop this client is only overwhelmed by the absolute fleece sixty gold for a quick trip to the capitol was. Even if it meant first hunting down his damn carriage and scaring off some bandits.

Or a flake of a guard.

Whichever, really.

"Just like that? You took no precautions?"

"Well...he was my precautions...you know?" He smiles at me in a way I'm sure he thinks is charming.

I press my lips together into a tight line. "...And you immediately went to hire another...?"

"Well I said I wanted a trustworthy one!" Lucas protests, spreading his arms wide in appeal. "Obviously that one wasn't reliable."

I stare at him for several long moments before turning away with a shake of my head. "A complete fool."

That's what he is.

A pretty little fool.
