Chapter 310 - Nightingale's Song

Roland hops down from the front bench of the wagon and approaches the door leading to the tavern of the inn with his typical swaggering gait.

The door is flung open with a harsh screech that makes me wince slightly as the noise stabs through the silence around us, and Roland ducks under the frame to step into the warm, busy atmosphere inside.

I hop out of the wagon next, carrying May against me with one arm wrapped under her bottom, and Lucas follows just after me, reaching up to poke May on the nose gently with his finger. "Someone's getting a ride still, huh?"

May nuzzles up to me in a pleased fashion, cozying up as close as she can and hiding her face in my collar, so Lucas can't possibly poke her anymore.

I smile and reach up to tousle her hair. "Is Lucas bullying you?"

"Hey! Bullying is way too harsh!!" The merchant calls out in offense. "That hurts my feelings."

"Mh?" I tilt my head and smile at May. "What do you think?"
