I am speechless.
Her statement catches me so off-guard that my mind simply errors and refuses to provide me with a good response for a good...
Few seconds?
She shakes her head, puffing her cheeks out. My silence is apparently no deterrent to her.
Perhaps she takes it as agreement.
"Auntie can't be sad all the time. It's no fun, and...I don't like it...and you always make me happy!! Auntie is always there to scare away the sad! But then Auntie can't scare away her own sad, so I'll do it!"
She flexes one bicep. As if to indicate that's how she'll do it.
It is adorable.
"Auntie Diane can't be sad anymore." She points her finger at me firmly, making a valiant attempt at sounding authoritative. "Not allowed."
Lucas hums and kisses my other cheek without warning. "Hey, am I doing it right, May?"
She wiggles and squints skeptically up at him.
"Uh...maybe a little bit...the thingy's still there. Little sads."
