Chapter 259 - Dragonflies

The early afternoon arrives. I sit on the grass near the manor, enjoying the sunshine on my skin as I stretch and listen to the birds chirp.

May is laying nearby in the grass, watching a dragonfly zipping through the air around the field. She waves her hands to try to shoo it away, but it seems too elusive and slips out of reach every time.

Celeste has found herself a sunny spot a short distance from me, curled up against an old growth tree with a book in her lap, basking in the afternoon sunlight filtering through the canopy, warm and serene.

The rustle of leaves is calming. The slight breeze on my skin feels pleasant. The heat of the sun on my face is so comfortable, I feel as if I can fall asleep at any time.

I feel at ease. I feel at home.

May scrunches her nose, and wiggles a hand towards the insect in an attempt to scare it away.

It flies out of reach once more, and her hand falls limp at her side with a disappointed huff. "No..."
