Lucas isn't just pale, though.
He's trembling.
I reach for him, touching his arm lightly.
"Lucas...?" I speak softly.
He snaps to attention, gaze finally turning from the prince to me.
After a moment he shakes his head. "I'm fine." And after another moment, he gently touches my cheek with his hand and smiles. "No secret curse this time. I promise."
I think maybe he's trying to defuse my worries.
"Hey. I'm serious."
I narrow my eyes a little at that and study his features, searching for any hints or clues to his thoughts.
The smile looks real.
But Lucas has always been good at making his expressions do whatever he needs them to do, to reassure others and charm people and make deals.
I suppose, if there was ever a time to rely on him...
I trust him.
I lower my head to kiss his fingertips. "Alright. But tell me later."
