The food doesn't last much longer, and soon May is trying to hide her yawns, and how she keeps rubbing her eyes.
I smile, and stand up, holding out my arms to her. "Alright. Why don't we get you to bed?"
"Can we cuddle...?" She asks quietly.
She sounds so sleepy, but so afraid I might say no.
I give a slow, easy smile and hold my arms out. "Of course. Come on."
She sniffles.
Her eyes have gotten all red and wet.
"Wh-why...?" She whimpers. "I'm so scared..."
"Scared of what...?" I murmur gently and kneel down, opening my arms wider as I speak.
"...What if...I don't see you guys again...?" She whispers. "...a-and...and you were nice..."
I don't hesitate, but gather her into my arms, and sit back down, cradling her in my lap.
"Hey. What kind of talk is that, huh?" One hand holds her loosely in my lap and the other pets her hair. "Where'd you get the idea we're gonna disappear?"
