It's not the next day but the day after when we receive a message from Valentine: A devastatingly powerful earthquake struck Neraw at the same time our own manor experienced that milder earthquake. He seeks our help with rescue and rebuilding.
The destruction is said to be so catastrophic that dozens have died. Hundreds more injured or missing at the time the letter was sent.
"I'll come with." Celeste announces, as Lucas, Roland and I get our horses fitted and ready. "I-I can help."
Roland glances at the nervous girl and nods. "That's good of you. The extra hands are always welcome."
I look down at my sister and smile gently. "Well, Celeste. If you insist, I won't deny your help."
I nudge my horse and we're off, galloping along the road heading towards Neraw.
As we travel, Roland describes more about the town as Celeste rides alongside us.
