Chapter 166 - Contemplation

The storm rages outside once it begins to rain. It's unforgiving and harsh, as if to remind us that winter is far from over.

Thunder roars and lightning strikes.

Rain beats heavily on the roof, the sides of the house, and the ground.

Lucas pulls me away from the window.

He takes my arm and guides me away from the curtains and back toward the table, where Talia and Nora are finishing their meals. "Diane."

"Hmm...?" I tilt my head curiously, raising an eyebrow.

His voice is barely audible over the drum of the rain. "Your eyes were glazing over."

"My eyes..."

Lucas' grip on my shoulder tightens just slightly, and he frowns with concern. "Please, Diane, whatever it was...take it easy."

Take it easy.

Yes, that would be nice.

I lean in and press a kiss to his cheek, then draw in a breath. "...Yes. I'll be fine." I assure him.
