Chapter 163 - Peaceful Rest

I feel dizzy.

I lay back in the bed, staring up at the tavern's roof. Rain is falling. I can hear it pattering on the roof above me.

Lucas is sleeping beside me, on the small bed. It's...almost too small a bed to fit the both of us on it, in fact. We have to get...very close to not almost fall off.

Fortunately that happens to be what I want.

My gaze sweeps over him as he sleeps.

His soft black hair is scattered in gentle waves over the pillow and over his forehead. His arms are loosely wrapped around me. His dark lashes are in stark contrast to the soft white of his cheeks, and they flutter a moment as he sleeps, likely dreaming.

I shift my head to face him more directly, to watch his serene face.

My gaze slides over the contours of his cheek and the bridge of his nose, down the faint line of his jaw. I study his pink lips as they move minutely with his breath, and I think about kissing him. I imagine waking him by doing just that.
