It's late night by the time I first catch sight of Kastellos over the horizon. The first building that can be seen from a distance are the wooden palisades and walls around the outskirts of the city.
In the near distance, a pair of ships stand tall, lit by lanterns that reflect off the water as they rise from the harbor. The scent of salty sea and fish floods the area.
Even this late, people mill back and forth, taking down their merchant stalls.
Late night hawkers still shout as we ride through the city, and entertainers dance and sing in the torch light. Exhausted sailors carry packs full of supplies to and from the harbor over their shoulders.
I can only imagine that in the daylight Kastellos outdoes even Carleon with the noise and activity.
Lucas takes the lead in getting us through the narrow streets, waving and shouting at folks who might cause us trouble until we reach a particular inn.
