Chapter 103 - The Empty City

The first thing that catches my attention is the quiet.

I hadn't noticed it at first, but when I do, I notice how incredibly, unnervingly, still and quiet everything is. No sounds are made by insects or animals. No birds sing their morning chorus. The river's waters flow calmly, peacefully.

In the Forbidden Lands, there are no animals left. All the sounds I hear come from the wind, the river, or ourselves as we ride through the empty, haunted landscape.

Everything is too still. Too silent. As if we've wandered into a painting come alive.

Lucas guides our path with confidence as we pass through the eerie tranquility of the Forbidden Lands. The forest breaks away into wilderness, and that only highlights more how empty and lonely this place is.

As if everything that lived here had twisted away and withered into nothing so long ago that there's no sign they'd ever been.

But there is.

Ahead of us, I see it.
