"Xander, do you still think I do not suit Calix? As his wife?"
Leslie's question, despite being spoken calmly, made both Calix and Xander uncomfortable.
Her eyes were locked on the man sitting across her. The hint of unease was evident on his usually rigid countenance.
What was his answer?
Leslie wasn't the only one wanting to know it. Calix felt the same.
The atmosphere in the lounge was always warm and cozy but, the ambiance changed tonight. The tension in the air seemed to thicken with each passing minute.
Seeing the uneasy look on Xander's face, Leslie spoke again, "Please answer me honestly."
No matter what the man's answer was, Leslie wished that Xander would be truthful.
Xander unconsciously dropped his gaze for a second before looking up. His slightly sunken countenance shifted, showing his resolution.
Staring straight at the calm Leslie, Xander replied, his voice steady, "Yes. I still think so."
