Realizing what had just come out of her mouth, Evelyn hastily pressed her lips. A pin-drop silence voided the rest of the noises in the room.
...what did she just say?
Damn!
A douse of guilt washed over a part of Evelyn's anger as she stared blankly at Calix. A wave of tremors reverberated from her heart, cementing the weight of the situation in her mind.
"S-second Brother, I didn't mean..."
How could she talk about her second brother's painful past just because she was mad at him? She witnessed it firsthand how that shrew ruined him!
"Eve, calm down."
Calix raised one of his hands, still wearing a casual look on his face. He acted as if none of Evelyn's words stung him.
Softening his voice, Calix said, "Be careful with him, Eve. You can be angry at me as long as you want but, please think over my words."
