Chapter 1 - Guild World Online

"Welcome to the realm of gaming! It is the year of 2024, and the world is set to be changed by GGN. The foremost game development company, who has put in 500 million yuan into the game Guild World Online. A new, extremely realistic, live gaming experience, the first of its kind." All the while, the TV show continued to play out, I rose to my feet.

"Matheo, could you please come here for a moment? Some of our coding is not functioning properly, would you mind examining it for me, pal?" I responded affirmatively to my colleague while striding towards him, "Of course, not a problem." Simultaneously, I was assisting my colleague with his issue. "Is it true that this is a new game and five hundred million just for a game? Those people at GGN are insane! Perhaps we should research it, possibly we can participate in it and make some money for our organization while doing so." A man exclaimed as he observed the commercial on the TV.

I twisted my neck to face my colleague while he continued blabbering. "Hold on, I'm gonna look into it since the whole planet is transforming in 2024 so to enlarge our minuscule company, we ought to follow the current trends." He articulated as he sauntered towards his desk and switched on his PC.

"Okay this is the website for Guild World, ow they have a video, let's watch it. Matheo come here." He activated the video and I strode towards him, settling down right beside him to observe the trailer for the upcoming GGN game.

** We are delighted to introduce the Guild World Online! GGN has achieved a remarkable feat in the gaming industry with its new full dive system. This system allows you to bring your current life into the game, with the capability to construct your desired world. Every Non-Player Character is an advanced Human AI with the capacity to think and feel like a human. This is an unprecedented development in the gaming sphere.

Due to the real-world system, death is an inescapable fate for NPCs - there is no resurrection. Now let's look into the details of how it operates for those who register and what the game is all about. Guild World is not intended for individual play; each person will have the option to either join or form their own Guild before signing up. Then, you will start in a humble Guild House, and you will have to construct it with your in-game companions or hire NPCs from the world to join your Guild. With that, you will be capable of competing for domains in the game world to eventually control the expansive open world.

Construct your own fortress. People with wealth and enterprises may link their resources in the game for a head start in the Guild Houses and Guild Bases. Be aware of this before forming or joining an alliance. Nonetheless, the universe is full of obstacles to level up and craft. If you are capable enough, you can go lone wolf and be a one-man army in accordance with your gaming style. This is the initial look at our new game. Keep an eye out for future updates.

In just 10 minutes, the Guild World server will be operational, so take this opportunity to enter now! Seize the moment and don't miss out this great chance! **

After the video was over, my colleague cast a glance my way and said, "Matheo, you really should speak to the CEO about this; with your gaming talents, we can accomplish a lot." I swivelled my head and rose from the seat, then headed off. "I need to contemplate this, I'm going to grab something to eat and be right back." As I stood outside, taking out a cigarette and a lighter from my coat pocket, I lit the cigarette and drew in a puff of smoke. I recognised that I had to inform them that today was my final day on the job.

*Last night in the office*

After finishing our final coding for our new project for a phone game, I walked towards the CEO office.

Knock, knock.

"Come in." The CEO said with a firm voice. He glanced away from his laptop and gazed in my direction, inquiringly asking, "What can I do for you?" I placed the finalized project details on his worktable. "It is all set, the game is ready for launch." The CEO extended his arm. "Well done Matheo, why don't you take a seat, I have something to discuss with you." A hush blanketed the room until he spoke in a tranquil, yet resolute manner, "I think it's best if you exit the company." I gazed perplexed and mumbled, "What have I done to offend you? I'm one of your most proficient coders and gamers, why do you want me to depart?" The CEO arose and strolled towards the window, gazing out while speaking. "For starters, I cannot give you any extra salary, second, this team is increasingly relying on you than me and I cannot have that in my business. I apologize, however, please be out of here tomorrow." He uttered as he rotated and shut down his laptop, and then stepped out of the room.

*Present day*

"I guess that's the end." I said while buying some groceries from the store. Beginning my return to the office, I accomplished everything and then commenced packing up my belongings while simultaneously saying farewell to my colleagues. "Alright, as you can all see, I am gathering my things and leaving the company as of today. Do your utmost and don't disappoint me." I grabbed my box with each item inside and walked away, as everybody gazed at me in bewilderment.

My associate ran out in a hurry and gave my left shoulder a hearty slap. "Wait, Wait!" he cried, his voice hoarse from running down the stairs. "This can't be true, why are you leaving? We can't manage without you, let's go and speak with the CEO." I grinned and took his hand in mine, calmly removing it from my shoulder. I declared as I sauntered off, "It's alright buddy, give it your all and I won't reverse my decision." I said while walking away.
