Chapter 101 - Bishop

What does it mean to be a knight? Knights are private organizations funded by their government. Although they can do their own missions, they still have to follow and execute commands of the government. The governments love them because of the fact they're cheaper than other full time soldiers, and knights are more trustworthy than mercenaries. Over the years many knight companies have come to fame, others have died and were lost to time.

Why then are the more despised mercenary companies coming to power, over the loved, and respected knight companies. Although the question is rarely asked, each time it is it brings academic debates. Unlike knights mercenaries are not restricted to any country. Mercenaries' lives don't matter, leaving the government's military power intact. Although the price can be high for mercenaries the contracts often call for refunds if the mission is not complete, leaving little risk. It's not all ups for mercenaries, knights are often better equipped, and are more capable at specializing for specific tasks. The famous knight commanders are some of the strongest living people. This is because most governments willingly give the role of knight commander to strong people to keep them in their countries. Weak knights still exist in poorer countries that still want to maintain the look of strength. Having knights is equivalent to having next gen tanks or fighter jets, it shows you truly care for your military power. However proper soldiers are still capable, they are often looked down upon. Citizens see them as heroic, but if you ask them to name a single famed member they would be left speechless. The USA armed forces, known as the MDF monster defense force, and the OSF overseas assault force. There is of course, the navy who is an honorary member of the Royal Fleet. Unlike the other major navy's the US ships have no battleships in active service, the main ships in current use are heavy destroyers, and light cruisers. The flagship of the fleet, is the USS Rose, a heavy cruiser equipped with two 11 inch guns and ten marc two armor busting anti monster missile launchers, ABAM for short. As well as multiple Phalanx CIWS to deal with low rank flying monsters, and to deal with higher rank flying monsters there are multiple lord rank mages on board, as well as an admiral of king rank.

On board the USS Rose, Bishop rests his head against the back of his hands. In front of him is an empty room of bunks, each bed elegantly made, no sheet even slightly wrinkled. A heavy hand knocked on the door.

"Bishop!?" A commanding angry voice.

Bishop jumped to his feat, his hand in full salute. The door slowly opened with laughter, the man in front of Bishop couldn't keep his face straight.

"Fuck Seath, you scared the shit out of me!" Bishop screamed.

"Hay why are you screaming at me? I'm not the one slacking off."

"You don't look like you're doing anything?"

"Guess again."

"Don't say it."

"Chief wants you on deck."

"Fuck, not again."

"Langrage! If Chief caught you swearing like a sailor, it will be your neck." Seath moved his hand over his throat in a threatening line.

"Fuck you."

Seath held his mouth in joking horror.

"You punks, get out of my room." A woman walked in, her face filled with scorn. "I can get you court marshaled for harassment. I'm sure the Admiral will support my case."

This sent a shiver down both the men's backs.

"We were just leaving." Seath ran out of the room at full speed yelling, "top deck Bishop!"

"I am so sorry." Bishop walked out with his hands on his neck.

"Beat it." She slammed the door behind him.
