Chapter 85 - Angels have arrived

The sky turned a golden crimson, the earth quaked, trees splintered and collapsed. From the horizon meteors fell like rain slamming into the ground. From the ruble soaked fields rose colossal monsters. As the legends foretold they were angels.

People came rushing out of the hole Alex created. Spilling out into groups. Some chose to run. But as a majority, like the warriors they are, most decided to fight. Alex however had no fight left to give, as he fell unconscious.

This was a fight comparable to the monster human war. Fifty Angel ranked beasts against a little under one hundred and sixty. To call this an easy battle would be absorb. There are only 50 Comaders, 15 Generals, a couple Lords, and a single King. Anyone less than commander is useless for anything more than support meaning the real odds are around, 50 v 68.

As the highest ranking martial artist who is still conscious Arthur took the lead.

"How far away are reinforcements?" Will asked one of the paladins.

"It's been 16 minutes, so they should arrive in about ten minutes."

"Tom, and Izac stay back and protect me. The rest of you work with the others to defeat the Angels."

"Yes lord bishop." Again they responded as one.

Once most of them scattered Will told Tom.

"Bring Qortez's body out of this wretched place, hide him so we can give the brave man a proper burial."

"Is it wise for me to leave the bishop at such a time."

"Do as you are told."

"Yes lord bishop."

As one of the bishop's personnel paladins Nick was one of the best of the best. Selected through vulgaris examination. He was above even those of higher ranks. But among the other bodyguards he didn't stand out. Just one of the many genesis, or so he was told. Nick never saw himself as a genesis, as a member of his once prestige's family that once saw such great fame in the human monster war, he felt like he was nothing. Nick's father barely reached the rank of general, and his mother was a weak commander rank. There was no ill will in his family, but he still found himself fading them out of his life. Nick often wondered if there was more to living than just fighting, but it was hard for him to find it. He always just felt so alive when he was so close to death.

Even now, bringing his well trained fists to bear against these Angel rank monsters felt so amazing. A hippogriff stood before him, bearing its mighty fangs.

"I am happy to meet you angel, may Vanagh's gaze guide you."

"Holy man, why fight your lords?" It's voice thick and horse like molasses. "Those fists of yours aren't like the others?"

"The angel speaks? Let me take your skin, it will be perfect for a set of armor."

"Insane human! I will end you."

The hippogriff charged with all its might.

"Let's see how much you can take." Like a matador, Nick smoothly sidestepped the hippogriffs assault. " Two times."

The punch smacked into the beast's side, its flesh teared a bit, but the beast showed no reaction.
