Chapter 10 - Hammer

Under the radiant sun, Krez sat beside the pond, meticulously polishing the metal arm guards obtained from the skeleton boss. One of them glistened nearby along with a pair of greaves, reflecting the sunlight. As he removed the rust on the 2nd set, a sleek and streamlined armor emerged, devoid of any ostentation. When worn, the armguards would offer protection from the fingertips to the underarms, while the greaves would protect from the tip of the toe to mid shin. It evoked images of the knightly armor worn during medieval times.

After inspecting the armguards and greaves, Krez decided to incorporate them into the armor he was planning to make, choosing not to melt them down. However, the pants armor the skeleton boss was wearing was beyond salvage, not even registering when inspected. Krez surmised that the chest piece must have been in even worse condition during the battle with the skeleton boss, as it wouldn't have broken so easily otherwise.Krez was still amazed by the statistics displayed on the armguards and greaves, the inspection screen still on his mind.

As the skeleton's broken chest armor and pants melted into bars inside the stone furnace crafted by Krez, he envisioned creating a sleeveless chest piece and pants, stopping mid-calf. Using panther leather, snake scales, and wolf fur, these materials were abundant and ideal for practicing and experimenting in crafting his new armor.

His plan included attaching the armguards to the chest piece and greaves to the pants, forming a complete armor set for comprehensive protection. On the blacksmithing table, the skeleton's two-handed sword lay with the blade completely detached from the handle. Krez had plans for repurposing and crafting it into a new weapon, a hammer.

Krez decided to use the two-handed sword handle separately, as it registered as its own item after being detached from the blade. He was pleased very pleased with it.

The core was crafted from a blend of infused steel and oreight, then enveloped with the leather of a star spot deer.

After reading "The Art of crafting," Krez learned that oreight was a 3-star material, and infused steel was a 2-star material. Although the book didn't delve into crafting above 1-star, it provided insights into various higher-tier materials.Krez also made a significant discovery: higher-level items provided more stat boosts. Upon inspecting the gear, he concluded that items began enhancing their users at the 3-star level.

Krez walked over to the furnace; If he were forging with raw materials, he would have to hammer out impurities. Fortunately, the armor he had obtained was originally a 2-star armor. Once he cleaned off the rust, the block formed from the melted armor would have a low amount of impurities, making it incredibly hard.

With the leftover armor completely melted, what remained was a huge block of infused steel. The glowing red block measured about a foot long, 3/4 of a foot high, and half a foot thick. It had a hole in the center, designed for attaching a handle.

Before melting down the damaged armor, Krez had removed the buckles that held the different pieces together, ensuring an easy attachment of the armguards and greaves to the new armor he was planning to craft.

Krez prepared himself; he had to quench the glowing red block. Wrapping up his hands, he grabbed the hot metal and threw it. The block soared through the air, landing in the qi-infused pond with a satisfying sizzle with steam and a huge splash.

Krez ran over to the pond and pulled out the block; it had been perfectly quenched. The hammerhead displayed a beautiful black with a slight luster. Krez used Inspect to check the stats.

Krez brought the head of his future hammer over to the blacksmith's bench, the anvil of the bench made from sturdy stone that Krez couldn't even break with his fist.

Krez stood ready with the star quick handle, approximately 2 feet long with half of it wrapped in leather and a circular pommel at its bottom. Once the handle of a 2h great sword, its substantial size made it perfect for the hammer.

Krez, filled with visible excitement, connected the quick star handle to the Heavy hammer head using a shard from the blade of the skeleton boss's sword, which resembled a wedge. When Krez used Inspect, it registered as one item, signifying his successful reforge of the sword and armor into a hammer.

A reforge from a budding crafter, the challenging part of forging was already complete. However, without inspiration, this work would have never been completed. Not only deadly in battle, but this hammer can also be used to forge quality items of 3 stars and lower.

Krez had a hunch, and the hammer's description confirmed it. Even though he crafted a 2-star head, it was from already purified materials. If he had forged the hammer from raw materials, it likely wouldn't even reach the 1-star rank.

Equipped with his newly crafted hammer, Krez was prepared to gather materials for his upcoming armor. Despite enjoying hand-to-hand combat, he believed wielding a weapon would enhance his ability to inflict serious damage. Krez held a preference for the raw power of hammers over swords and other bladed weapons.
