Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: Little Scuffle

"Do that if you're prepared to die." Lloyd said.

People were gathered wondering what was happening and what was going to happen.

"Hey isn't fighting in the citizen a crime?" A man whispered into the ear of the man standing besides him.

"It is but look closely, that General Duke and Lloyd. They're both leaders of the city, I don't think that rule is applicable to them.

Right now, Duke was beyond furious. He charged up all his strength in his left hand, wanting to deliver a devastating punch to Lloyd.

"That's enough." A voice shouted.

Duke's punch halted halfway and forcibly pulled his hand away from Lloyd's hold. Tessa what in between the both of them, looking somewhat angry.

"What's the meaning of this?" She asked. "Duke how can you act so irresponsible in public. If the leaders are breaking the rules what do you think the citizens will do?"

"This brat dares challenge and embarrass in front of the whole city." Duke shouted and started walking walking away. "Just you wait and see, you too Tessa." Duke murmured.

Lloyd and Tessa locked eyes for a moment, but then Lloyd walked up to Maya.

"Sorry about that," Lloyd said with a warm smile.

Maya didn't respond instantly to Lloyd, she had a look of fear and regret in her eyes. "Don't you understand. You've made it worst. When I go home, he's surely going to vent out his anger on me." Maya said almost in tears.

"What do you mean?" Lloyd asked.

"He's going to hit me furiously when I getting home." Maya said crying.

Now taking away his attention from Maya to Tessa.

"This is all my fault, I need a favor from you." Lloyd said.

Tessa was startled for a brief moment because she didn't him to suddenly ask for a favor.

"What's with the sudden request?" Tessa asked.

"I need you to find a suitable place for her and whenever she needs. I'll cover all the expenses." Lloyd said.

Tessa looked at Lloyd in a weird way before replying "I'll see what I can do."

Maya walked in front of Lloyd and Tessa bowing her head while crying.

"Thank you very much for this. I promise to repay you back one day." Maya said as tears dropped down from her eyes.

Although they were almost the same age, Lloyd saw her as his little sister.

"Don't worry about it, it's nothing." Lloyd said with a smile.

"I'll talk to Duke about this and a suitable place will be provided for you before the end of the day." Tessa added.

"Thank you so much." She said to Tessa.

"It's Lloyd you should be thankful to not me." She said then turned to Lloyd. "We have a meeting at the city hall."

"A meeting, no one told me about that." Lloyd said. "When is it starting?"

"Right probably a few minutes time, if it hasn't already started."

"Umm, sorry to interrupt but I have to go," Maya said. "Thank you for your help again."

Maya then started walking towards the opposite direction which led to the city market.

"Let's go, aren't we late already?" Lloyd said.

They started walking towards the direction of the city hall where the meaning was going to take place or already taken place.

Their walk to the venue of the meeting was particularly quiet.

"Why did you do that?" Tessa suddenly asked.

"Do what?"

"Helping someone you barely know that much. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against the idea of helping people but why her?"

Lloyd smile before responding "Well, I'm not even sure myself. Probably because she kind of reminded me of my little sister."

"Is that my you want to leave Star City, because of your sister?" Tesss asked.

"She's one of the reasons, my family and the families of the others are."

"Must be nice." Tessa said in a saddened tone.

"What, do you mean?" Lloyd asked confused.

"When I was five, my family died in a car crash. My only sister left me and ran away a few months later. Then I went to go live with my grandparents, six years later my grandpa died from cancer and my grandma had a heart attack from hearing the news."

"I'm sorry about that." Lloyd said.

"It's okay. Since my grandparents died none of my uncles and aunts took me in, they said I was cursed and that death went wherever I did. One day Edith met me in the streets and took me in, since then it's been me and her." Tessa said.

"I'm really sorry about that." Lloyd said as he didn't know what else to say.

"Don't be, now I have Edith, Duke, Ben and the others." Tesss said with a smile. "I even have the city, who would have thought my life would take a drastic turn."

Their little conversation was cut short as they were now standing in front of the city hall. Inside the others were already seated and waiting for them before the meeting starts, including Duke who was still visibly angry. They stand down on two on two of the empty chairs then the meeting started.

"Recently, before this whole zombie invasion. My team and I discovered a cave, we decided to do a little exploring in and we were able to get, one obsidian ore and three diamond ores." Duke said. "All those were found just at the entrance of the cave."

"So what are you trying to say?" Ben asked.

"What I'm trying to saying is that, me and three others are going to go and explore the whole of the cave." Duke added.

"So who are the three others you've chosen to accompany you?" Ace asked.

"Tessa, Zeke and Lloyd" Duke said.

"But what if you come across something dangerous, isn't three a bit too small." Annie voiced out her concern.

"That's why, Lloyd is coming. With his shadows summons we should be able to deal with whatever we come across and it will also reduce the casualties should there be any. With that being said, are there any objections" Duke said.

None of them really had any objections because it was a good strategy that Duke had come up with.

"Since no one has any, we leaving in two days time." Duke said.

And with that the meeting came to and end.
