As I opened my eyes, even more people have surrounded my bed than previously. My room began to be crowded with more than three maids, two buttlers, my parents and now there were even two more doctors.
"My son, did you finally wake up? After you suddenly fell asleep we were so worried..." mother inquired and when I was going to reply suddenly I felt a huge pain in my head as if it was going to explode. It was unlike any torture that I've experienced or given in my past life, the pain was not something that a human could ever experience. It felt so bad that I could just scream and scream, while everyone started panicing, doctors casting some spells.
During this, some memories started to appear in my head. All experiences of the Kayn from this world were shown in my mind. All his ups and downs, achievments and dissapointments. His emotions - love towards parents, hate towards his bullies. There was also happiness that he felt when he was with his only friends from magic academy: Akeyla and Max. The warmness that he felt while he was spending time with his most loyal buttler George, and the other servants of the house. We now truly became one - I was Kayn, an assassin from my previous life and Kayn from this life. Emotions from my previous self now were mine. I wasn't feeling as awkward anymore when seeing faces of my parents that still were looking at me worriedly. Everyone was now familiar to me, not strangers. However, my hate for Yatell family was only strenghtened and I promised myself that they will pay me and my family back thousandfold. While my mind was still in a chaotic state, the pain subsidued and my thoughts were interrupted by father's words.
"Kayn, please be healthy, we need you the heir, to be strong as you are the one who will lead this household in the future. He told me this and approached me. He slowly started sharing his mana with me, to help my body recover.
I was feeling very grateful to the old Kayn. I felt like he would become one of the prodigies among the kids his age if not for his fear of killing others. Although, he couldn't practice anything, he didn't stop increasing his knowledge. Now, that I'm here and after I've killed thousands, the fear simply does no longer exist. I'm not scared of killing, I never was, so now I have both skills and knowledge. Only this body of his is in a really bad shape due to constant beatings that he got from others, the recent attempt on his life and no training in general.
As my body was still very weak and my father was carefully giving me low amounts of mana, yet I felt like I could take more I recalled how to absorb mana from the surroundings and began to do it, which shocked everyone present.
"Honey, aren't you sharing too much mana? His body might not handle this!" my mother exclaimed, panicking about my condition.
"I'm not the one doing that, although I am sharing some of my mana with him, right now he is absorbing mana from the air. But how is it possible, he didn't awaken at 13..." Father started looking me in the eyes, curious about it.
"Whaaat? Our son is capable of gathering mana? Vanessa, bring us device that checks the mana core." My parents ordered a maid who was silently standing in a corner of my room. She nodded and quit the room.
My parents and George, my buttler, started discussing something beetween them. I couldn't hear their whispering, because they walked away from my bed. After some time, Vanessa entered my room with a small, gray device that emitted some blue light. This was a mana core measurer, that would emitt only a very weak ray of white light and wouldn't react if a person couldn't gather mana at all, but if it did, then the light would be more visible. She told me to put my hand on it while my parents were keenly observing us.
After I put my hand on it and I felt like something has started to suck out my mana, the light that earlier was very dim, slowly grew brighter and after few seconds the device was glowing with very bright and sharp light that changed its color to orange.
Everyone in the room was watching this open-mouthed. I recalled from my memories, that the brighter the light the bigger mana pool someone would have. The color meant the affinity that I had for an element. As this is portable device and a really non-advanced one, serving just for a quick testing, it could only show one color at a time, meaning the users wouldn't know if there is just one affinity or more. But leaving that, lets go back to the meaning of colors:
White - is a default colour of device, if it became brighter it means you have mana and can cast non-affinity spells or just a basic affinity ones like e.g. 1 star "Fireball", but nothing more advanced like 4 star "Hell's fire". If it just stayed as it was, then it means you have neither mana pool nor affinity.
Yellow - affinity for holy element, used for healing, blessings, summoning the "higher" ones, I wasn't so interested in reading about them, so lets leave it at that.
Black - darkness element, related to necromancy, black magic (which is mostly forbidden) and some other spells. Colors close to black or its' shades are affinities originating from darkness - like, someone could have a shadow element, meaning he has the inferior version, however its not like shadow is a useless element and it actually has some advantages over darkness one.
Orange - fire, well, self explainable for now.
Blue - water, Light blue - ice, Green - nature/earth etc., Gray - air and some other colors, that are more unique, but since I got the fire affinity I don't wanna wonder about the rest for now.
Anyway, this device is actually useless, because everyone can check on their own affinities that they have and feel the mana pool. The devices like that are commonly used during checkups at the academy admission, when person doesn't yet know how to access their magic core to know their affinity or when there is a need to force the information about someone's affinities out of them.
"My son, it seems that this accident has changed something, and your near-death experience made the nearly impossible naturally - late awakening. Are you now... you know, more eager to train? I won't force you, but seeing that you broke the barrier of not being able to awaken even after so many years maybe your mindset changed allowing the awakening..." - His words and spark in eyes has shown me just how much happy he was, but I also knew that he wouldn't force me to anything.
"Yes, father, I no longer have any fears. The Yatells should be fearing us now. Also them... who awakened at 13 like most kids do, I will catch up to those three and overshadow them. Next time someone ambushes us, you won't have to protect me." - I told my father, as I knew the only reason he and my mother were injured during the ambush and couldn't kill them immedietaly was that they had to held back due to me being just next to them. The assassins not caring about their lives and doing all to just kill didn't make protecting me easier.
"Young master, I think we should double check your affinity and if you maybe have more than one. In order to do that close your eyes, control your breath and try to feel your mana core that is located in your chest. Imagine looking through your core and tell me what you see." - My loyal buttler George instructed me on checking my magic affinity. Although I knew how to do that, because previous Kayn has read about it countless times in books I still followed what he told me. After calming my breath I focused, I imagined looking inside myself, at the core that is in my heart and then I thought of being there, inside it. Some time passed and I suddenly appeared there with not high hopes for another affinity, I didn't even feel like it would be useful to me anyway unless it was a darkness or its lesser type.
"Kayn, why are you so silent? Did something happen?" - My mother calmly asked as she was worried that I was so silent. The reason I was so surprised was because according to the knowledge I now possesed I had three affinities. This was something so rare, yet I just discovered I was lucky enough to have them.
The affinities I saw in my core were: fire, darkness and apparently ice
I came to a conclusion that although I can reveal all my affinities I shouldn't do it until I have enough experience in using them. For now, I will only tell it to three people: George, Mother and Father. The secret of part of me being from other world - I will take it to the grave. I don't have any guilt in keeping it to myself, because I've really become Kayn from this world. With his memories I feel like I've lived his life till now.
"Mother, Father. I have awakened. I can feel my affinity. I'd like you to tell it. George can also hear that."
I didn't immediately tell them, because the maids and doctors still were present. My parents understood that I don't want to reveal affinity to others and asked everyone except George to quit my room.
"I have three affinities. I feel heat when I look at my core which means that I have the fire affinity, inside my mana core I can see a glacier - ice element. Although there is a sun in the sky, it is black and everything is dark not even shadows. This means that I also have darkness affinity." I explained to them what I saw and awaited their response. They had look of desbelief on their faces. George was the first one to regain his cool.
"It's very shocking, but I don't see any reason for the young master to lie. According to his words he indeed possesses three affinities. Actually, it's not hard to check if it is truth. We can give him some basic spell books for each of those elements and see if he can use them efficiently. It is clear when someone has affinity and someone doesn't. Someone would have to train for years in order to break the gap between having affinity and not having one."
George calmly explained everything to my parents. My father nodded his head. My parents felt two emotions - first being happines that I'm not longer unable to use magic. It didn't matter to them whether I am talented or not, but they always saw how sad it makes me that I couldn't even use basic spells and it hurt them to not be able to help me. What worried them was the reaction of people. Even if I had only three affinities it would make many enemies. Most of the influential families have heirs with only one affinity maybe two. If they discover that I have more than them, they will see my family as a threat. My father's words confirmed my speculations.
"My son, you will be finally able to do what you could only dream about till now. However, what you have now is both blessing and a curse. I hope that you understand that you can't tell anyone about your magic talent. I recommend you to let others think that you have only two affinities. If you trust some people more, or it would bring you benefits you can also tell them about your third affinity. Under no circumstances can you let anyone know that you have more than three affinities. I will help you train all your elements, but choose the ones that you want to use publicly. Do you need some time to think?" It surprised me how quickly father came to this conclusion and thought of this. I agreed with everything he said.
"Dear, our family is proficient in using fire affinity so I think you should choose it. It will be easier to believe that you have one of our signature elements. As for the other two, decision is yours" I was already thinking about fire affinity, but my mother's words convinced me even more. One element is then decided. As my father said, I should be known as a person with two affinities, and the third one I should reserve for life-threatening situations and tell about it only to my most trusted ones. With my previous life experience as an assasin I decided that dark element will be my second one and after few minutes of thinking replied.
"Okay, if you say so, I will use fire magic. I also decided that I want to be known as a darkness user." Even though it might've been more beneficial for me to hide darkness element, since as an assassin I could use it as element of surprise efficiently I didn't really want to do that. I need to show the world that no one messes with Mivis family and to do that I need to show my talent.
Now it was George's turn to speak. He was always knowledgeable and in my family's hierarchy, he was always said to be very strong. There are rumours that while fighting seriously he is even on par with my father. Many don't believe that, because if that was true, why would he be a mere buttler? The reason isn't simple, all I know that it is because of something that happened in the past.
"Young master, you have decided on fire, which is a wise choice and resources that you can be given by your parents are more than enough to make you powerful. Since you also chose darkness and in this family there was rarely a person with this affinity then I will be the one training you in it. Regarding the ice one... You will need to train it on your own, the library will be fully accessible to you, even the restricted floors." Knowing his strenght and seeing that my parents also agree with what he said I now was convinced that I made a really good choice. Though, in order to have a special hidden card I will need master ice affinity as well as the other ones.
