Synopsis
I have never been a social creature, so when the Zombie apocalypse broke out I decided to go solo. Well decided would be a lie , with no friends (that are alive) and no family ( that is not trying to kill me) my choice selection had been compromised. With towns overrun by mutated zombies and a society crumbling into anarchy, I made the wise choice of going into the wilderness. But the wilderness has its own challenges, and with only my trusty bow and an axe my dream of living a slow life in the apocalypse seems impossible.

Chapter 1 - Day of the Outbreak

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH"

"NO NO NO STOP IT HELP HELP ME PLEASE!!"

Where was the water bottle again? I keep forgetting it I remember Thomas put it next to the soda but its not here.

Maybe in the fridge...oh nice it was in the fridge although it being cold is kind of useless now because I will take it with me on my adventure.

But for the sake of honouring the thoughtful act of putting water in the fridge for others to enjoy cold I am going to take a sip.

Ahh thats goo-..

"HEEEELLLPPP HELP!! ME WHY ARE YOU JUST STANDING THERE HES GOING TO KILL ME"

I take a quick look at my mother who is currently being nibbled on by an enormous mutated zombie that would put someone like Arnold Schwarzenegger to shame with his incredibly muscular physique.

The roid rage would have to be something we would have to work on though, especially since this zombie had killed my entire family in the spur of the moment.

But even his impressive physique was not holding my mother back from screaming at the top of her lungs.

"P..Plea..please..h..hhelp me I...I..DONT WANT TO DIE"

She was sobbing her eyes out and obviously the carpet was ruined because there was blood everywhere.

But back to the task at hand I needed a pan and some pots if I wanted to survive in the wild,

well I had no clue what I would really need but with the sparse knowledge I had acquired from survival videos and my own general knowledge I knew 2 things.

First I would need something to secure water, shelter and food and second, this would be the most challenging thing I have ever done .

"Sob Sob Sob So-...."

/SNAP/

And there goes my mother.

Gotta hurry the fuck up because the zombie seemed to eye me as a dessert for later and eating my mother would not hold him back much longer.

Getting the pots was becoming more of a challenge as my hands were trembling uncontrollably and my body had become extremely tense.

I did not understand why though there was nothing I could have done I was no hero or manga protagonist that could use the power of friendship to save the day and kill this mutant.

No this was reality and this mutant zombie had burst through our high security apartment door splattered my step fathers organs all over our newly bought Persian carpet then proceeded to grab my sister, smashed her into the wall creating a spider web like crack and was now eating my mother.

There was no reality where I could take this monster on If this had been a grizzly bear at least I could have tried being the hero, but no this was not comparable this was out of this world and the smartest course of actions was to ignore everything else, pack my shit and run away.

This was at least what I told myself.

The ground was shaking which was my signal to run towards the balcony thankfully I had reacted quickly enough otherwise the mutant that was now crashing into our kitchen destroying the dishwasher and sink in the process would have smashed me into smithereens as well.

The moment the mutant crashed the floor began to violently shake tripping me to the balcony ground.

After recovering my bearing I could hear water falling on the ground most likely due to the destruction of several pipes, but enjoying the moment was out of the question as I could also hear the heavy breathing of the mutant.

I jumped atop the balcony railing and with the shaking of the floor as my start signal I jumped to the other side this childhood dream I had of jumping from balcony to balcony had finally been fulfilled, but there was still my heavy backpack that was making shivers run down my spine.

Adrenaline was pumping through my veins and suddenly everything slowed down the balcony railing in front of me came closer and closer and through my peripheral vision I could see a city going up in flames a helicopter seemed to have some mutant related trouble cars were letting out smoke people were running and screaming for their lives.

And thats when I hit the railing.

"Bang"

First my hand then my head the impact seemed unavoidable due to my heavy luggage, it hurt quite a lot but my hands would not let go.

I knew I wasn't going to fall anytime soon but getting up was ultimately impossible, would I really die like this slowly falling to my death, maybe I should let my backpack fall down.

No thats not feasible I would have to hold myself up with just one hand and currently my strength was just barely enough to keep myself from falling.

As I was searching for any kind of solution out of this predicament, the neighbour had opened the balcony door and was looking at me from a distance with a hammer in his hands.

Wide open eyes and a fidgety demeanor told me that one wrong move and he would not hesitate to kill me.

"Hey man not trying to seem impatient but I could use some help here."

Just when I thought my only option was going to be jumping down to the balcony below me a hand grabbed me and helped me up.

My neighbour Mr. Rio and his wife which I did not remember the name of where long time friends of my step father Thomas and his Rio's wife seemed to want to know what happened to the rest of us.

But before that Rio exchanged some pleasantries with me.

"Are you OK??"

"Yeah man I am as good as it get's."

I welcomed this because I did not want to tell them what had happened they could think up their own conclusion even without me as they must have hears the loud rumbling and explaining everything in a situation like this was just a waste of time especially because that huge chunk of mutated meat would soon start searching for more victims.

Not letting myself get disturbed by their mood I charged into their room, Rio in turn backed up out of the doorframe put one arm in front of his wife as if to protect her while the other was clutching the hammer ready to attack.

I ignored them and looked around their room.

"Hey do you still have that 90% vodka my dad once bought you."

"EHH? Yes I still have it its next to the wine but why d-.."

"Thanks man that might one day safe my ass."

Rio talked with me but his eyes did not even once lose me out of their sight and I had the impression that he had not blinked even once during our whole exchange.

I couldn't even take offense at that as I had contemplated killing them and taking all their stuff, but my this was not smart first of they would not go down without a fight and I had no time.

And beside that it was a lot more likely that my nonchalant attitude was scaring them.

Well they might be useful for something else.

Looking through their stuff I found the alcohol.

"Do you have a lighter as well"

"..."

A sigh came out of me I continued on my way towards the door.

"Goodbye I wish you guys the best of luck."

I did not look back but I could just imagine their bewildered expressions.
