Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Lily's POV

" You have been selected for an interview, slated 8 days after you receive this mail." Lily couldn't believe her eyes. She has been selected for the interview.

At least a little excitement in her life would help her out of her dilemma. She would get back to them after the burial. She finally finds a boost to sleep since has wandered around her emotions for some hours, switching off the lights, it was bedtime for Lily.

Her phone rings, quite early in the morning, grumbling she picks up her phone, it is her mama.

" Hello Lily", there was no nickname this time, Lily it must have been serious.

" Hello Mama, is everything okay?" She has asked.

"Everything is fine, you might just have to clear your schedule today" Her mama had said.

"Why what's with the urgency? I have plans to meet Justin today"

"Today is the will reading and the lawyer has requested we all be there including you." Her mama responded.

"Me? What do I have to do with it? Mama", Lily had responded confused

" You should still come, I'll see you there" her mama hangs up.

Still confused and a little pained that she would have to cancel her meet-up with Justin she decided to iMessage him, to her surprise there was a text from an unknown who she later discovered was the lawyer asking her to kindly be there at the will reading later today.

Guess she had to go, texting Justin to explain everything, she scanned her closet for a casual to throw on when the time came.

She spent the entire waiting hours thinking of what was probably the need to have her there.

It was finally time to leave her house, the drive was fast this time, and she was grateful she didn't have to spend hours in the drive.

Everyone was already there, except Damson who the lawyer had mentioned had an impromptu meeting, he arrived a few minutes later dressed in his black suit which she must say fitted him properly, his haircut was noticeable, he must have had it for the funeral tomorrow she thought, his lips were so beautiful to watch as he apologized for the delay with his face still stoic.

Discovering what she was doing, she cut herself off from those thoughts, she hardly bares those types of thoughts, what was going on, diverting her attention to the lawyer, the statement 10% of my properties goes to Molly's daughter Lily and an employment at the company left her in shock.

That was not her, she wasn't going to accept it anyway, the properties and the job. Thankfully, she had an interview call now and she hoped it worked out. She couldn't process her thoughts because the lawyer left immediately.

Not even a second after there was when there was an outage from a woman.

" What, how dare he? Left me with nothing? Must be a joke or a fake will", the woman had said. Guess that was Mr. Holland's ex-wife.

Lily must admit her approach was wrong but she did agree that the will was fake because she couldn't understand why she was receiving 10% of the company's shares. The employment request was believable Mr. Holland had mentioned it so many times mama and herself.

Damson was quiet but his face was confused, she didn't understand why but she knew she would have been surprised too if she was him.

The entire outrage felt so family related so she left as fast as she could telling her mother her byes as soon as she could. She wasn't going to collect the shares or the job anyway she already felt indebted.

Lily was finally home still dealing with the shock, she took a swift act to respond to her interview's mail.

" Good day, Sir/ma, I would be pleased to attend the interview in two days ma'am, if that's fine, I'll be happy to get a response back." Lily had sent.

A very stressful and overwhelming day, she resorts to taking a needed shower as she lays on her bed with her last thoughts thinking about why she must have received anything from Mr. Holland.

 ***

The sunlight grazing her room finally reminded her that the dreaded day was finally here. The funeral of the man, Mr Holland, meant a whole lot to her. She would meet her mama at the house.

The day had started for her with a droplet of tears here and there, to her deciding to clean up sluggishly only to bask in a pool of tears. It was going to be a long emotional day and she hoped she was able to handle herself, her mother needed her.

Dressing up in a red gown with a little slit by the side, she had no choice but to put it on, buying a new cloth for an important loss was not on her list.

The invite had said, "Dress great, he would love that." Mr Holland was such a jovial man, she was sure he would have wanted that. Lily's face still looked miserable, she picked up her bag and found her way to the house where her mama was.

Picking her mama, it was time to get to church for the first service. It was a quiet moment in church, as realization had hit not only her but everyone that had come, she had shed a few tears while petting her mum continuously.

The church service ending with the songs of service meant they had to go to the funeral garden where Mr Holland would be laid to rest.

The garden was beautifully done, Damson must have put in the work. She was happy that Mr. Holland got a befitting funeral like he deserved.

Damson had come over looking all sharp in his expensive suit, he stood with the theme of the invite. He had said "Hi", a very short exchange of pleasantries, most likely a draining day for him, she thought.

The day ended and it finally hit that Mr. Holland was gone as she remembered how he was laid to rest. Tomorrow was her interview, they had accepted her time submission.

"Oops, I can't even catch a break", Lily had said aloud.

 ***

All dressed up in a corporate dress, a blue silk shirt with a medium reach skirt and her favourite go-to flats, she had gotten a call from her mum wishing her good luck.

Her mum had understood what it meant to get a job elsewhere after the whole scene at the will reading.

Lily was finally here, now tense she walked in through the company's doors, walking up to the receptionist's table.

"Hello, I have an interview here today", she had said to the receptionist.

"Oh, you can move this way, ma'am. All you have to do is write your name here for attendance and take the first stairs up, the guard there would take you to where your interview would hold" the receptionist had described.

A nice receptionist, she was looking forward to working here.

Getting to the interview site, the number was quite huge, and nervousness crept in again, she knew she had to make an impressive statement here since she never wanted to result in taking up Mr Holland's offer.

It was finally her turn after multiple calls, seated they had been impressed by her results and her volunteering activities. She had answered the questions well with her understanding and it had earned her a great and beautiful response.

Hoping it bred great results, she said her thank you to them and left feeling completely exhausted.

Her mother had called to know how it went and she had led her through the process.

She was tired and she couldn't wait to get home to jump on her bed.

The bus was here just in time, she boarded and home was here in a few.

Finally, she was home, removing her shoes, she just laid straight on the bed, finally resting.

She gets a beep but she was too tired to check whatever was up again.
