Moxley's eyes widened in shock as he recognized the face of the mysterious mutant.
It was Lucius, the very mutant who had helped them in fending off the other mutants back in the old laboratory. The revelation added a layer of complexity to the situation, leaving Moxley perplexed and conflicted.
A strangled cry tore from Moxley's throat,
"Ciel, stop! It's Lucius!" The word ripped through the stunned silence, a grenade flung into the fragile truce. Ciel, his metallic joints still humming with residual energy, froze.
His blue eyes, cold moments ago, flickered with a flicker of confusion as he processed the unexpected revelation.
Ciel analyzed the situation in a millisecond.
Lucius, drained and battered, lay sprawled on the ground, his enhanced features more grotesque in the harsh morning light. His eyes, however, held a flicker of recognition, a desperate plea that mirrored the turmoil in Moxley's soul
With a slow, almost mechanical grace, Ciel deactivated his combat protocols. The blue glow that had shrouded him like an aura of battle faded, his blade retracting into the sleek lines of his arm.
Moxley approached Lucius cautiously
Moxley took a moment to address the confused and wary expressions of the survivors
"I know it might be hard to believe, but Lucius here, this mutant, is the same one who helped us back at the old laboratory. He saved our lives from a horde of mutants when we were cornered. There's more to this story, and I believe he deserves a chance to explain."
The survivors exchanged uncertain glances, their trust in Moxley conflicting with the fear of the mutant lying on the ground. Lucius, still recovering from the intense battle, grunted in pain.
Murmurs, hesitant and disbelieving, rippled through the survivors. A young woman, her voice barely a tremor in the air, ventured, "He... he's the one from the lab?"
"Look, I get it. Helping a mutant isn't something you hear every day. But Lucius here is different" Moxley added.
Lucius, still clinging to the fringes of consciousness, "Don't paint me no knight in shining armor, old man. Just happened to be caught in the same storm as you."
Moxley chuckled, "See, But there's more to him than meets the eye. He's fighting against the same guy controlling those cyborgs and the mutants. Fredrich is the real enemy here."
Lucius, his face contorted in a mix of pain and irritation, muttered, "Hell no, enemy or not, I won't be anyone's puppet."
The survivors exchanged glances, still uncertain about trusting a mutant. Moxley, determined to bridge the gap, continued,
"We're not saying we trust him completely. But if we're going up against Fredrich, we need all the help we can get. Lucius might be the key to understanding and beating that mad scientist."
Lucius, grunted in pain and cast a glance at Moxley.
"Why bother explainin' myself to these folks? They won't understand."
Moxley shot him a reassuring look. "Just try, we need their trust."
Lucius met Moxley's gaze with a snarl. "Fine," he spat, the word laced with gravel and regret. "I was one of them, you know. White coat, fancy degrees"
"I was a scientist, like Dr. Fredrich, workin' on a cure for the mutation. But somethin' went terribly wrong," Lucius growled, his frustration evident. "The experiments twisted me into this mutant form"
The survivors exchanged uncertain glances, their trust in Moxley conflicting with the skepticism towards the mutant. Lucius, despite his demeanor, nodded weakly in agreement.
I've been fightin' against Fredrich, and I helped you because I saw a chance to break free, even if just for a moment. I'm not your enemy," Lucius stated with a hint of anger in his voice.
Martha, who had been quietly observing, stepped forward. "If what Moxley says is true, and Lucius helped us before, maybe we should give him a chance. But how can we trust that he won't turn on us?"
Lucius, struggling to rise, grumbled, "You don't have to trust me. Just don't get in my way."
The survivors, their skepticism still lingering, began to soften as they considered Lucius's words.
Ciel analyzed Lucius's vitals and detected no immediate threat. The tension in the air began to ease, and a tentative understanding emerged.
"Then why did you attack Ciel outside?" the people asked
"Misfire," he spat, his voice rasping. "Sensed somethin' watchin', felt the prickle of danger. Figured another of Fredrich's abominations, so I reacted on instinct."
Martha spoke up, "We can't afford internal conflicts, especially now. Dr. Fredrich is out there, and who knows what he's planning. We need every capable hand we can get."
Lucius grunted "I won't be takin' orders from anyone, but if it means kicking Fredrich's ass, I'll tolerate your presence for now."
And so, in the ruins of their shattered world, a fragile alliance was forged. It was a pact born of desperation, a truce built on the shaky foundation of shared enemies and the desperate need for survival.
Lucius remained an enigma, a wild card in a game of life and death.
A crimson cyborg, hidden in the shadows, watched the dust settle after the fight between Lucius and Ciel. Its cold red eyes scanned the scene, then blinked rapidly as it transmitted data back to Dr. Fredrich's lab.
"Target Lucius engaged in… conversation with human resistance group," the cyborg replied in a monotone. "Appears to be forming… alliance."
A flicker of surprise crossed Dr. Fredrich's holographic face. "Alliance? With those scavengers? Lucius, ever the unpredictable one." He chuckled, a harsh, grating sound.
"This makes things more interesting."
"Query: How does this affect capture protocol?" the cyborg inquired, its head tilting slightly.
"Capture protocol remains unchanged," Dr. Fredrich rasped. "But prioritize Lucius. We need him alive. Broken, humiliated, a prime candidate for my latest project. He'll be my masterpiece, a living testament to the glorious fusion of flesh and steel"
The cyborg's visor pulsed briefly. "Acknowledged. Prioritizing Lucius capture. Eliminating resistance group optional."
"Optional for now," Dr. Fredrich cackled. "Let them squabble amongst themselves, sow the seeds of discord. When Lucius is mine, their fragile alliance will crumble like a sandcastle in a storm."
The cyborg, its red eyes devoid of any emotion, bowed its metallic head. "Understood, Doctor. Capture and transport of Subject Lucius initiated."
The hunt for Lucius had begun, but his capture wouldn't be easy. He had found allies, however tenuous, amongst the survivors, and they wouldn't go down without a fight.
Ciel, his blue eyes glowing with a newfound resolve, vowed to protect Lucius, not as a prisoner, but as a potential comrade in arms. The road ahead was fraught with danger, but for the first time in a long time, a flicker of hope glimmered in the wasteland's dust. Perhaps, just perhaps, this unlikely alliance could be the spark that ignited the flames of rebellion
The red cyborg stood silently, awaiting the perfect opportunity to strike.
Unnoticed by him, a bunch of mutants crept up behind. With a growl, they charged, their freaky shapes visible in the dim light.
The red cyborg spun around, locking onto the incoming mutants. In a flash, the air filled with tension as he jumped into the fight.
His moves were quick and destructive, making short work of the mutants. The red cyborg's strength and speed were scary, easily beating back the seemingly endless wave of mutants.
The mutants, usually fierce, were helpless against the red cyborg. His limbs moved with precision, dealing powerful blows that sent mutants flying.
As the battle went on, the red cyborg moved like a blur, leaving defeated mutants in his wake. His style was brutal and efficient, showcasing the advanced tech within him.
It played out like an action scene, each move carefully planned. The red cyborg's relentless attack continued, and the mutants, unable to fight back, fell one by one.
The red cyborg's glowing eyes showed no emotion. He was a destruction machine, moving with the precision of a robot and the ruthlessness of a predator.
Back inside, Ciel and Lucius, clueless, were just trying to catch a break. Little did they know that just outside those walls, the red cyborg was turning the fight into a full-blown spectacle
Even from a distance, its power seemed off the charts
This monster might be beyond Lucius' and Ciel's combined strength.
