"Since you can read and understand so much, from today onward, you can find some clerical work you can do within my territory."
Tartax looked up in surprise.
Why had his deliberate attempt to provoke Ivita not angered her, but instead, resulted in her releasing him from his slave status?
Tartax, puzzled, said, "But, Lord, I am the slave you purchased."
"Actually, no money was spent," Ivita said, waving her hand, "You were just a tag-along to that female slave. Releasing you poses no loss to me. Even if there were some loss, I would still release you, because my territory cannot accommodate a slave."
"A slave appearing within my territory brings damage, far exceeding the slave's purchase value and the value he can provide me."
"From today onward, I am just your lord, not your master. You are a free person now, Tartax."
