Chapter 9 - Chapter 8: Attack of the Fish Demon_1

"Eat fish...?"

The Crow Demon immediately asked, "Where is there fish?"

Lu Fei replied: "In the river."

Saying this, he stood up, holding a firewood knife, and walked towards a sparse bamboo forest. He found a straight and robust bamboo pole and cut it off.

Then, he began working on it.

It did not take too long.

A bamboo fishing fork with two sharp tines was ready.

Lu Fei was pleasantly surprised when he saw the dense school of fish in the river that the monsters on the mountain seemed oblivious to.

Moreover, with the original host's memories, he knew the food these monsters prepared was primarily raw animal meat, peeled simple, visceral removed, chopped into small pieces, and thrown into a big pot to cook. Then, they would add some wild radishes, wild onions, and other wild vegetables they ate when they were beasts, and stew them all randomly together.

It fills the stomach alright, but the taste, well, one can only guess.

After all, a group of beasts that only knew how to eat raw food, even after becoming intelligent demons, are far from matching a real human when it comes to food.

Only after some demons became stronger, secured their lives, and broadened their horizons, they would then begin to think and pursue more.

"What is this... a weapon?"

The Crow Demon asked, looking at the bamboo fork in Lu Fei's hand.

Lu Fei replied: "This is a fishing fork, and you will soon know how powerful it is..."

As he said this, he cut two more suitable bamboo poles and started making more.

In no time.

Three bamboo fishing forks were ready.

Then, Lu Fei and his companions came to the river.

There were schools of fish swimming all over the river.

This place was rarely frequented by humans, and these fish were not scared by the footsteps of the three demons.

Lu Fei looked at the fish in the water, lifted a fishing fork, and plunged it towards the largest school of fish nearby.

The violent action immediately scattered the fish.

Soon, the murky sand and stones dispersed.

Lu Fei saw a grass carp, not quite dead yet, pierced on his fishing fork.

...

When the day completely turned dark.

Near the riverside on a piece of grassland.

A bonfire was burning brightly.

Next to the bonfire, three demons, one with a white wolf's head, one with a bird's head, and one with a tusked pig's head were sitting.

Each little demon held a bamboo pole, each pole threaded with a big fish, grilling over the fire.

Sniffing the aroma of the grilled fish.

The impatient Crow Demon put the grilled fish in front of his nose, took a strong whiff, and then looked at his companion Lu Fei and asked: "White mane, is this fish... really edible?"

Lu Fei, who was focusing on grilling the fish, lifted his head and glanced at the hesitating Crow Demon. He didn't find it strange. After all, these terrestrial demons had few chances to eat fish, and their lack of worldliness was quite normal.

So he said: "Of course, but when you eat, it's best to slow down and be patient. There are fishbones..."

However, before he could finish his sentence, he saw the Crow Demon couldn't wait any longer and bit into it.

The very next second.

The Crow Demon opened his mouth wide and started shouting, "Ahh, ahh, ahh..."

"What's wrong with him...?"

The Little Pig Demon, Red Pi, who was still grilling fish, was puzzled by the Crow Demon's strange behavior and asked Lu Fei.

Lu Fei laughed: "He stabbed his mouth..."

"Stabbed his mouth..."

While Red Pi was puzzled, he saw the Crow Demon pull a white, sharp thorn from his mouth.

The night was getting deeper and deeper.

In front of the bonfire, over a dozen big fish had all been devoured by the three demons.

"Was the fish good?"

Lu Fei discarded the fishbone in his hand, wiped the stain around his mouth, and asked the two little demons in front of him.

"Tasty... tasty..."

"Umm..."

The Crow Demon, sucking his fingers, nodded hurriedly, not forgetting to let out a satisfied burp.

"Delicious..."

Little Pig Demon Red Pi also nodded in agreement: "I've never tasted it before."

Only after Crow Demon cleans each of his fingers to perfection does he say with satisfaction, "I think I heard somewhere that fish in the water are tasty, but I've never tried them before. Now I finally know."

Even though they hadn't been acquainted for too long,

Lu Fei seemed to have understood the Crow Demon's tempers and reminded him, "You must never reveal this to anyone, especially the Rat Demon."

"Indeed..."

Little Pig Demon Red Pi chimed in, "The fish here can feed us three for a very long time. But if the other demons find out, we'll certainly starve like before."

Although Crow Demon was quite the gossip, he understood the importance of the situation and nodded in agreement, "I won't reveal it..."

Given Crow Demon's assurance, Lu Fei nodded and ordered, "Let's first hide all the arrows we've made today. We'll continue with it tomorrow..."

Soon after,

Three little demons extinguished their flame.

They also collected and hid the bamboo arrows they'd crafted that day.

Only then did they return to their original form, left Bamboo Mountain, and headed for the main Rolling Mountain.

Two days later,

In the afternoon.

Under the scorching sun.

Within a vast bamboo grove,

Lu Fei was crouching in front of an enormous pile of bamboo arrows, meticulously counting each one of them: "Sixty-five, sixty-six, sixty-seven...one hundred."

Crow Demon and Pig Demon Red Pi, both completely baffled by the counting, were entrusted with carrying and sorting the arrows.

After a while,

Within the spacious bamboo grove, neatly arranged piles of arrows were resting, fifteen piles in total.

Each pile consisted of a hundred arrows.

Fifteen piles, which amounts to exactly one thousand five hundred arrows.

To be prepared for any accidents,

Lu Fei painstakingly crafted extra arrows.

"One thousand five hundred and thirty-eight..."

To make sure he hasn't miscounted, Lu Fei checked the count for the second time and finally confirmed the total number of arrows they'd managed to make over the past three days.

Watching Lu Fei finish tallying, Crow Demon immediately asked, "Do we have enough arrows?"

Lu Fei nodded, "We've got plenty. Now, we need to transport all of these arrows back to our dwelling..."

"But before we go back, let's first fill our bellies..."

With that comment,

The eyes of Crow Demon and the Little Pig Demon Red Pi instantly sparkled.

Ever since they tasted the roasted fish on the first day with Lu Fei, they had been eating it for three consecutive days.

They collected and hid the arrows one more time.

Lu Fei, along with the two little demons, arrived at the riverside again.

This time, each of the three demons held two fishing spears in their hands.

After a bit of spear-throwing,

Before long,

A dozen or so fish, including various types such as Black Carp, Crucian Carp, and Common Carp of varying sizes, were lined up on the riverside.

The responsibility of dividing the tasks and cooperating was again in place.

Little Pig Demon Red Pi, having brought the fire source in advance, started a fire.

Lu Fei, holding the fishing spear, continued to scout for big fishes along the riverside.

Crow Demon squatted on the riverbank, handling the fish entrails.

Just then,

A massive shadow surged upstream from the downstream, following the scent of blood.

As Crow Demon, complaining about the scorching sun while cleaning the fish,

Suddenly,

A shadow ferociously darted out of the water, clamped onto the Crow Demon and dragged him into the water.

Observing this scene from the upstream, Lu Fei saw with his own eyes as Crow Demon was being dragged under. Without a second thought, he gripped the fishing spear tightly, and dived straight into the river.
